Ratio N Water Trough Set (255)

Water trough set comprising sections of trough to construct a total length of 370mm (14.4in) of trough in your track and lineside warning boards with lamps and servicing ladders.

The trough can easily be built to a shorter length, or extended by the addition of a second kit. The trough parts have been designed to allow clearance for coupler arms. A water storage tank would normally be sited near to the troughs to maintain a supply of water, eg. Ratio water tower kit 215.

Water troughs were installed on many British mainlines to allow steam locomotives to refill their water tanks without needing to stop. A scoop was lowered from the locomotive or tender while running at speed, generating sufficient force to lift the water from the trough to the top of the tank or tender.

This model of LNER number 1230 is finished in the classic LNER apple green livery, as applied to the first locomotives built before nationalisation.

Dapol N LNER 1234 Thompson B1 Class 4-6-0 Apple Green (ND-120D)

The B1 was one of the most widely travelled LNER locomotive classes, being the Eastern companys' class 5 engines, equivilant to the GWR Hall and LMS Black 5 4-6-0s. 410 were built in total, replacing many older locomotives from secondary duties, including inter-regional services.

This model of LNER number 1234 will be finished in the classic apple green livery.

Peco N Chance & Hunt Covered Salt Van (NR-P122)

Salt companies often had their wagons fitted with a simple but effective sloped wooden roof to ensure the wagons' contents remained dry in all weather conditions. This wagon, painted in the livery of Oldbury merchants Chance & Hunt, features this distinctive peaked roof.

Parkside Dundas OO GWR 10-Ton China Clay Wagon Kit DIa. O13 (PC82)

Joining the recent range of GWR wagons from Parkside is the GWR O13 design china clay wagon.

Designed and built for the specific purpose of hauling Cornish china clay these wagons had an end door to allow rapid discharge and brake gear arranged at the fixed end both sides. 500 were built in 1913, designated diagram O13, but when replacement became due in the early 1950s BR built more wagons to essentially the same design. While the GWR-built wagons were withdrawn in the 1950s the last of this design, modified with ridged tarpaulin covers and widely known as 'clay hoods' (kit available from Ratio), lasted until the 1980s.

Peco N Army Pallet Van 4000 (NR-P54)

The British military operate a number of rail-connected storage depots across the UK with a fleet of wagons for transferring stores between depots and terminals. Most stores are now moved on pallets and a fleet of pallet vans has been in use by the Army since the 1980s.

This van features large sliding doors, arranged such that half the length of the wagon floor can be accessed through each door. This allows quick and easy loading of palletised freight along the full length of the wagon.
