A great colour and one of our biggest sellers. A dirty slate colour that works in many different situations from weathering landscapes to model wagons, carriages and locos. It adds a little blackness to the weathering and is particularly visible on lighter coloured surfaces. Weathered surfaces often have a degree of blackness to them and are not just shades of browns. Works well on its own, but is also really effective when combined with the other colours to create darker patches for greater contrast. Weathering looks more realistic when the colours are mixed.

It is particularly effective on ballast, rails and sleepers and roads. If number of coats are applied it becomes nearly as dark as a light coat of Soot Black. Wipe it off the top of rails using a damp tissue after it has dried. On grass, tree and shrub foliage Slate Grey looks a medium to dark slate colour.

Slate Grey looks like black dirt when applied to model trains and houses. We use it often as a final coat if we feel a weathered model looks a little bright and needs toning down. A nice spray for making soot stain mark near funnels on loco's, and near exhaust outlets. This can be done in the same way as for Soot Black, by spraying over a hole in a piece of paper. Easier to use than Soot Black, apply 1 or 2 coats for a little soot staining, and 6 to 8 light coats to make the stain very dark. A light coat makes things look less new and just slightly weathered and a number of coats can make things look very dark and weathered.
