Corgi 1/32 DeHavilland Mosquito FBVI, MM403 SB-V 464 Squadron RAAF June 1944 AA34606

Formed on 1st September 1942, 464 Squadron RAAF operated the Lockheed Ventura medium bomber until June 1943, when it transferred to the machines it would operate for the rest of the war - the superlative de Havilland Mosquito. By the time of Operation Overlord, the Allies' assault on France, the Squadron had developed into a capable unit, harassing enemy lines of communication as well as static targets both by day and night. On the week of D-Day itself the unit flew 75 sorties, and for the whole month of June lost only five aircraft. For the next two months the Squadron found itself engaged in even more sorties, with 350 being flown in July alone. The Mosquito was an ideal machine for the type of low level bombing attacks being employed by the Squadron, being both fast and having the extra reliability of two engines. It remained the weapon of choice for 464 Squadron until it was disbanded in September 1945.

Corgi 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf109 G6 9/JG3 Udet Ofw Alfred Surau Yellow 6 Bad Worishofen Germany September 1943 AA27103

Corgi AA27103 Messerschmitt Bf109 G6 9./JG3 Udet Ofw Alfred Surau Yellow 6 Bad Worishofen, Germany September 1943

Sporting elaborate eye markings on the cannon bulges, this Messerschmitt Bf109G-6 of 9. Staffel was flown by one of the Luftwaffe's shortest lived, but most effective aces. Alfred Surau scored his first kill on the 28th February 1943, while flying on the Russian front. When III./JG3 was transferred to the Western Front his kill tally had reached 41 in just six months. The skilled veterans of the Eastern Campaign made III./JG3 one of the most effective in the Luftwaffe at downing the USAAF heavy bombers that now threatened German cities and industry on a daily basis. While the Bf109G-6 was not the most effective machine for tackling the big heavy bombers it was still capable of some successes. Surau's winning streak was not to last. On the 14th October 1943 return fire from a B17, his 46th and final kill fatally injured him. He bailed out but died of his injuries later that day.

Corgi 1/72 Consolidated B24D-25 Liberator Ruth-less 506th BS/44th BG Shipdham Summer 1943 AA34017

Consolidated B24D -25 Liberator 'Ruth-less' 506th BS/44th BG, Shipdham, Summer 1943

B-24D 'Ruth-less' had an eventful life before even leaving the United States. While pilot Frank Slough was practising formation flying another machine lost control and slammed into his aircraft, severing the tail of the other B-24 and smashing the nose of Slough's B-24. The co-pilot panicked and abandoned the aircraft, leaving the engineer James Caillier to take over as co-pilot, helping to land the stricken craft. For this both received medals. Once in the UK the aircraft undertook many tough raids, including missions to Kiel and, while on detachment to Libya, assaults on the Ploesti oil fields. 'Ruth-less' was lost on 2nd February 1944 when it smashed into the top of a hill near Eastbourne. All were killed in the accident and today a memorial marks the spot.

Corgi 1/72 North American B25 Mitchell II FW130 MQ-A No226 Squadron Hartford Bridge, Hampshire June 1944 AA35311

Corgi AA35311 North American B25 Mitchell II FW130 MQ-A No226 Squadron Hartford Bridge, Hampshire June 1944

Whilst it was the heavy bombers of the RAF that gained much of the fame for the total devastation of the German lines of communication in France prior to D-Day, it was in fact the medium bombers of the 2nd Tactical Air Force that did much of the work. Aircraft like the B25 Mitchell were available in large numbers and were able to accurately attack targets such as marshalling yards, bridges and railways lines. Losses could be heavy due to the daytime operations undertaken. One of the squadrons engaged in such operations was Sqn 226. They had been to France before, flying Fairey Battles in 1940, but they now flew the B25 from RAF Hartford Bridge and were a powerful force in the skies over occupied Europe. The B25 proved to be a capable medium bomber throughout the latter part of the war, being both reliable and tough.

Corgi 1/72 Gloster Gladiator MkII G-GLAD The Fighter Collection Duxford 2013 AA36210

Built in 1939 by Gloster Aircraft at their Huddlecoate factory, Gladiator N5903 is now one of just two examples of the type still airworthy. Restored by the Fighter Collection over a period of more than ten years this Gladiator is an excellent example of the late 1930s biplane. On entering service it flew with 141 Fighter Squadron at Turnhouse in Scotland before being replaced by Boulton Paul Defiants in April 1940. The Gladiator survived the war, being used for various training and hack duties, before being purchased back by Gloster in 1948. Used as an instructional airframe it was given to the Shuttleworth Collection in 1960 along with the other flying Gladiator L8032. After this it was loaned to the Fleet Air Arm Museum before being purchased for restoration by The Fighter Collection in 1994.

With war approaching America knew it would be called upon to aid their Allies so a new aircraft would need to be developed. Douglas Aircraft designer Ed Heinemann?s DB-7/A-20 was chosen to be the new attack-bomber. The prototype flew in December 1938 with the first production aircraft flew on August 17, 1939. Production ran until September 1944 with 7,478 aircraft built. During WWII these were supplied to French, British, Australian, Dutch and Soviet forces as well as their own U.S. forces.

Corgi 1/72 Panavia Tornado F3 ADV 5 Sqn RAF Coningsby 1991 AA39803

Towards the end of the Cold War period the RAF realised that its fleet of English Electric Lightnings, whilst still very fast and capable interceptors, were becoming increasingly hampered by their short range and limited armament. To replace the Lightnings and the McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantoms then in service, the RAF introduced the Panavia Tornado F3.

Corgi 1/72 Westland Puma Helicopter HC1 XW220 33 Squadron Gulf War Kuwait 1991 AA27004

By the time of the 1991 Gulf War conflict, the Puma HC.1 had already been in service with the RAF for 20 years and had proven to be a capable and effective medium lift helicopter, seeing active service in Northern Ireland and in humanitarian roles such as the 1988 Jamaican flash flood. It was the 1991 Gulf Conflict that brought Pumas fully to war. They played a vital role in moving British troops across Kuwait during the defeat of Iraqi forces and at the climax of the conflict, proved decisive in rapidly mobilising and deploying troops preventing Iraqi forces from sabotaging the Rumaila oil field. The Pumas were painted in a water based sand colour which rapidly weathered leaving them in a distinctive shade of pink.

Witty Wings 1/72 Gloster Javelin FAW9R XH903 "G" RAF Staverton Gate Guard SGE72-004-02

1/72 die-cast metal model of the Gloster Javelin XH903 that was retired from service in 1965 and now resides as a gate guardian at Gloucestershire Airport, Staverton, Cheltenham, Glos. UK. Very good level of detail including drop tamks and missiles.

The Javelin was a big aircraft, with a crew of two - pilot and radar operator - and provided the RAF with an all weather interceptor capability. Model length is just under 9 1/2" and the wingspan 8 3/4". The actual aircraft was 56' 9" x 52', quite a machine at the time and unfortunately the last to carry the Gloster name.

Corgi 1/72 Westland Wessex HAS.3 Humphrey XP142 Royal Navy HMS Antrim AA37602

Corgi are one of the original British manufacturers of metal aircraft models. Produced in diecast metal the original quality has been improved upon with the application of modern production techniques. The paintwork is superb, and the tampo printed insignia and markings bring each model to life. With the inclusion of wheels and wheel covers, most models can be displayed either "on the tarmac" or airbourne, usually on a display stand.

Corgi's latest model of the Wessex HAS.3 as operating from HMS Antrim in 1982. Humphrey was a Wessex HAS.3 based on HMS Antrim with 100 Flight of 737 NAS. It was used to rescue the crew and passengers of 2 Wessex HU.5 that crashed on South Georgia during Operation Paraquat, the British operation to retake the island in late April 1982. Humphrey also undertook some Spec.ops insertions and rescued a number of SAS/SBS personnel who's motor had failed on their inflateable boats. A famous incident was the depth charging of the Argentinian submarine 'Santa Fe'. The helicopter was retired in July 1982. Rotorspan 237mm,

Corgi 1/144 Vickers VC10 British Airways Heathrow 1977 Diecast Model AA37002

It was through BOAC's many changes in their orders that G-ARVM became the last of the BOAC's 'Standard' VC-10's. When production of the VC10 commenced the order book listed 15 Standard VC10's and 30 Super VC10's for BOAC, both numbers had changed many times. In December 1961 the contract was once more amended to reduce the numbers to 12 Standard and 20 Supers?  but another result of this change was that the already planned c/n's 816, 817 and 818 to be registered as -VN, -VO and -VP would not be built which automatically made G-ARVM the last Type 1101 Standard VC10. Model wingspan 309mm,

Corgi 1/72 RAF Vickers Wellington Mk II Merlin Engines 104 Sqn August 1941 AA34806

Corgi's Connoisseur Collection diecast metal model  of the Vickers Wellington provides a the usual great finish and fine detail of what was an important version of the aircraft.

The most effective British medium to heavy bomber in service at the outbreak of WW2, the Vickers Wellington was well made and sturdy  Just as well as any encounter with a much faster single seat fighter like the ME109 was going to cause a lot of grief!

The majority of Wellington variants were fitted with Bristol Hercules or Pegasus radial engines but 400 were powered by the Rolls Royce Merlin inline V12. This engine, famously powering the Spitfire and Hurricane, afforded the Mk.II a higher top speed, increased service ceiling and a heavier maximum weight. Various squadrons operated the Wellington Mk.II, including 104 Squadron based first at RAF Driffield and then in Malta and Italy. They operated Wellingtons throughout the war, exchanging their Mk.IIs for Mk.Xs and then Liberators post war. This model features newly tooled Merlin engines.

Corgi 1/72 Westland Lynx HMA8, Black Cats Display Scheme, 702 NAS, Yeovilton, 2011 AA39005

Corgi's AA39005 Westland Lynx from the Black Cats Display Team.

Developed as an anti-submarine and search and rescue helicopter the Westland Lynx has served with the Royal Navy since 1981.  This, the HMA8 version has been operational since the 1990s and featured an improved weapons and radar capability over the earlier HAS.3 variant.

One of the strengths of the Lynx is its impressive manoeuvrability.  Able to do rolls and loops that other helicopters cannot, and combined with high speed, the Lynx is a perfect air show display machine, as proven by the Royal Navy's aerobatic team, the Black Cats.  Formed in 2001 and originally called the Lynx Pair, the team has given outstanding displays for over a decade.  Crews are drawn from 702 NAS based at Yeovilton and their aircraft are painted in this striking cat based livery.
