Witty Wings 1/72 Gloster Javelin FAW9R XH903 "G" RAF Staverton Gate Guard SGE72-004-02
1/72 die-cast metal model of the Gloster Javelin XH903 that was retired from service in 1965 and now resides as a gate guardianĀ at Gloucestershire Airport, Staverton, Cheltenham, Glos. UK. Very good level of detail including drop tamks and missiles.
The Javelin was a big aircraft, with a crew of two - pilot and radar operator - and provided the RAF with an all weather interceptor capability. Model length is just under 9 1/2" and the wingspan 8 3/4". The actual aircraft was 56' 9" x 52', quite a machine at the time and unfortunately the last to carry the Gloster name.
The Gloster Javelin was an "all-weather" interceptor aircraft that served with Britain's Royal Air Force in the late 1950s and most of the 1960s. It was a T-tailed delta-wing aircraft designed for night/inclement weather operations and was the last aircraft to bear the Gloster name. In September 1958 64 squadron then converted to the Gloster Javelin FAW9R
