Witty Wings 1/72 Royal Navy De Havilland Sea Vixen F(AW) Mk 2 Simons Sircus SGE72-003-002
A special and interesting aircraft, the Sea Vixen in a 1/72 scale replica that features interchangeable undercarriage, metal stand and a high level of detail.
The aircraft represented is XN694/305/VL, No 892 Squadron RNAS Yeovilton and part of Simon's Sircus Aerobatic Team 1968. The Sea Vixens operating and training at Yeovilton were a spectacular sight in the skies above Somerset.
The De Havilland DH.110 Sea Vixen was a twin boom 1950s/60s British two-seat jet fighter of the Fleet Air Arm (the air component of the Royal Navy) designed by de Havilland and developed from an earlier first generation jet fighter. It was was a capable carrier-based fleet defence fighter that served into the 1970s. Initially produced by de Havilland it was later known as the Hawker Siddeley Sea Vixen when de Havilland became a part of the Hawker Siddeley group.
Spare a thought for the navigator! Tucked away below the pilot, his work had to be carried out without a decent forward view and must have required a very strong stomach.
