The stripes were painted out in Norway but the dark bow and stern and the false bow wave were retained. However, evidence of the paint scheme can be seen on the wreck to this day. The air recognition swastika on the fore deck is believed to have been covered by a tarpaulin as she steamed into British air space but the tarpaulin is missing from the wreck and the emblem is visible today through a thin dusting of silt. Anyone wishing to add the swastika should note that the emblem is set square to the axis of the ship, not at the more usual 45 degree angle.
