Hornby OO SR 21C168 Kenley Streamlined Bulleid Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 Southern Malachite Green - The Final Day Series R3515

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R3515 Southern Railway 21C138 Kenley Bulleid Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 with Air-Smoothed Streamline Casing. Southern Railway Malachite Green Livery.
Expected November 2017

21C168 'Kenley' was built at Brighton, entering traffic on October 7, 1947 at Ramsgate. Unusually, there was no naming ceremony for the locomotive, although one had been due to take place with that for 21C156 'Croydon' but, following procrastination over a suitable naming location, all proposals were dropped and both locomotives entered service unceremoniously. On December 31, 1947, 21C168 'Kenley' was still allocated to Ramsgate Shed.

Modelling Railways in O Gauge by John Emerson
976-91 Modelling Railways in O Gauge

O gauge (scale 7mm to the foot) is the 'senior scale' and it has existed for almost as long as the hobby of railway modelling itself. With the advent of high-quality ready-to-run O gauge locomotives and rolling stock, it is enjoying a huge surge in popularity. This fascinating book is an essential guide to O gauge modelling skills, techniques, modelling suppliers and services.

Considers the history and the benefits of O gauge
Discusses the various prototypical gauges that can be successfully modelled in O gauge
Examines making a start in this gauge and practical layout planning
Shows the modeller how to successfully create scenery and model buildings
Covers the choice of locomotives, coaches and wagons
Demonstrates how to achieve an authentic lineside look
Contains a wealth of information, advice and tips
Beautifully illustrated with colour images, including some of the author's own 0 gauge exhibition layout, Gifford Street , and a number of other layouts.

Hornby OO BR 21C159 Sir Archibald Sinclair Bulleid Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 with Air Smoothed Casing Southern Malachite Green Lettered British Railways R3525

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R3525 BR 21C159 Sir Archibald Sinclair Bulleid Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 Light Pacific Southern Malachite Green Livery Lettered British Railways

The superbly detailed Hornby model of the Bulleid light pacific type locomotive in original condition with air smoothed streamline casing finished in an unusual early British Railways livery.
Battle of Britain class pacific 21C159 Sir Clive Sinclair is finished in 1948 style, still carrying her last Southern Railway number, 21C indicating 2 leading and 1 trailing axle with 3 (C) powered axles, followed by the locomotives' number of 159. The engine wears the Southern Railways' malachite green livery with yellow striping. The tender has been relettered BRITISH RAILWAYS using the Southerns' 'sunshine' lettering style.

Many locomotives repainted in 1948 were lettered 'British Railways' before the new British Transport Commission agreed on the 'unicycling lion' logo for the nationalised railways and transfers were available. Agreement on the 'British Railways' locomotive livery and numbering system took even longer, so locomotives carrying their previous owners' final paint schemes and numbers continued to run into the early 1950s.

Peco Point Motor Extended Pin PL-10E

Peco Point Motor Extended Pin PL-10E
The PL10-E point motor is fitted with a long point operating pin, ideal for mounting beneath baseboards.? A small 10mm (3/8in)? hole through the baseboard is required, located directly beneath the operating pin attachment location on the point. The pin will then reach through the board and locate into the operating pin attachment hole of the point. The pin can then be trimmed to length with a good side or track cutter tool. Peco strongly recommend that the PL10E? be used in conjunction with a PL-9 Mounting Plate, fitted directly to the base board underneath the point. Operation is from a passing contact switch or probe and stud system? to give a pulse from the? 16v AC outlet found on most transformers (2 amps required). If this isn't available an uncontrolled 12v DC supply? may suffice. A constant current would burn out the motor.

Peco OO Power Feed Joiners Code 100 & Code 124 PL-80

Peco OO Power Feed Joiners Code 100 & Code 124 PL-80
These new Power Feed Joiners will help address the worries of soldering that many modellers' have: they're the safe, clean and tidy way of bringing power to the track. Supplied in packs of four pairs, each joiner has a short length of wire securely pre-soldered to it.
The modeller just has to substitute the standard metal joiners for a pair of these where the power feed is required, and pass the wires down through pre-drilled holes in the baseboard. With approximately 8 inches (204mm) of wire on each one there should be plenty of length available to go through most baseboards. In turn these wires can be connected to longer runs of wiring under the baseboard and be taken back to the outlet terminals of the transformer.

Available now, each single pack contains 8 pre-wired joiners (4 red, 4 black)
Suitable for OO/HO Code 100, O-16.5/On30 Code 100 and O Scale Code 124 Bull Head rail profiles

DCC Concepts OO Bearing Reamer Pack DCF-BR2

DCC Concepts OO Bearing Reamer Pack DCF-BR2
Another great tune-up tool from DCC Concepts!
The bearing reamer set contains two reamers, one single-ended and one double-ended designed to clean up the moulded plastic bearing holes of RTR coaches and wagons and older kits with moulded plastic bearings. Fitting between the bearing sockets in place of the axle finger pressure can be applied to turn the reamer and cut a clean tapered bearing for pin-point axles. This cleans out any accumulated dirt/debris and corrects any faults with the moulded profile.
The reamers can also be used to make the bearing holes deeper, for example to allow standard length axles with recent finer-scale wheels to be fitted to Lima rolling stock, and dealing with any 'tight' axles.

DCC Concepts OO Wheel Back-to-Back Gauge 14.5mm DCG-BB145

DCC Concepts OO Wheel Back-to-Back Gauge 14.5mm DCG-BB145
14.5mm OO gauge back to back gauge.
Back-to-back gauges are used to check that the wheels are correctly spaced apart. Adjust your wheels to the correct gauge settings for reliable operation though points.
14.5mm back-to-back is the measurement used for commercial ready-to-run models using tension lock couplings.
Wheels set too wide or too narrow will not run through points properly and can derail on plain track. The back-to-back gauge sits between the wheels, which should fit against each face when correctly gauged for OO/HO 16.5mm gauge track.

Dapol OO F H Silvey, Fishponds Bristol 5-plank Open Wagon 4F-052-007
Dapol are releasing a new version of the F H Silvey liveried wagon featuring their new 5-plank body and 9-feet wheelbase wood style chassis. This model will carry a different running number to previous releases, representing another wagon in the large fleet of this Bristol coal supplier.
Based in the Fishponds area of Bristol, home to many engineering firms including locomotive builders' Pecketts, F H Silvey operated an extensive fleet of wagons. Coal was obtained to supply both the boilers and forges of heavy industry and the homes of the workers. The wagon fleet was kept busy year-round, fetching coal from Yorkshire and Kent as well as local sources in Somerset and Gloucestershire.

Dapol OO Lowell Baldwin Ltd. 9 Plank Open Coal Wagon 4F-090-001

Dapol OO Lowell Baldwin Ltd. 9 Plank Open Coal Wagon 4F-090-001
A large coal factor company, Lowell Baldwin of Bristol supplied coal to many industrial consumers, justifying the purchase of these large capacity wagons. The higher capacity were ideal wagons for delivering coal for the boilers of many industries and town gas plant, where large quantities of coal were required daily.
20-ton capacity coal wagons became more popular in the 1930's, as the railway companies offered a better rate per ton for coal haulage in these larger wagons. The railway company gained in efficiency, moving fewer wagons needed less locomtoive power and less shunting to deliver the same weight of coal loaded in older 10-ton wagons. To assist with unloading these high-capacity wagons two doors were fitted in each side, plus end and often four bottom hatch doors.

Dapol O Gauge 7F-071-025 7 plank open wagon Gloucester Co-Operative and Insdustral Society number 47
Weathered finish.

A detailed model of a 1923 RCH standard 7 plank open coal wagon finished in the chocolate brown livery of the Gloucester Co-Operative society.

The Gloucester Co-Operative coal yard was located within the Midland Railways' yard. Provided with direct rail services from the Midlands, Bristol, Somerset and Forest of Dean, a choice of coals could be obtained from hundreds of collieries. The society was a major supplier of coal in Gloucester, with 20,700 tons being handled in 1910, during which year the society ordered at least 18 new wagons, bringing the fleet to 42. The Gloucester RCW photographer captured the companys' shunting engine with Gloucester Co-Operative numbers 34-42 fresh from the paint shop.
The last batches of wagons purchased brought Co-Operative Societys' fleet to a total 52 wagons which it appears to have passed into the wagon pooling arrangements were enacted for WW2.

Features sprung buffers, 3-link couplings, metal wheels, opening side doors.

Dapol O John Stephens & Co Vinegar Brewers of Gloucester 7 Plank Open Wagon Weathered 7F-071-020W

Dapol O John Stephens & Co Vinegar Brewers of Gloucester 7 Plank Open Wagon 7F-071-020W Weathered Version
John Stephens and company ordered this 7 plank open coal wagon from the nearby Gloucester RCW company.
Photographed by the Gloucester RCW co photographer the wagon was used to advertsie the owners' buisness as 'Jam & Pickle Manufacturers & Vinegar Brewers', a most interesting change from the usual collieries and coal merchants. The wagon was most likely used to ensure a steady supply of coal for the works' boilers and provide extra storage capacity without incurring charges.
Trade directories for 1905 and 1935 give John Stephens' business address as St. Catherine Street, Gloucester and coal was certainly purchased from the Eastern United Colliery in the Forest of Dean. Coal may also have been obtained elsewhere, Gloucester having excellent direct rail links into the Midlands, South Wales and Somerset coal fields.

Hornby OO GWR Collett Coach Corridor Composite Right Hand Corridor GWR Chocolate & Cream R4762

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R4762 GWR Collett Corridor Composite Coach Right Hand Corridor GWR Chocolate & Cream

Collett 'Bow Ended' Standard 57' Corridor Stock
When Charles Collett became Chief Mechanical Officer of the Great Western Railway in 1922, one of his priorities was to modernise the GWR?s fleet of ageing, yet distinctive ?Toplight? coaching stock. His resulting ?bow-ended? design went on to become the basic GWR design for almost 30 years and from 1925, until the late summer of 1929, the steel panelled, oak framed bow-ended coach, with inset windows, high waist and clean exterior, was applied to 57? coach bodies on newly developed 7? single bolster bogies.

On entering traffic in 1925, six coach sets were formed from Lot Nos. 1351-53, comprising Corridor Thirds from diagram C54, left and right handed 4 compartment Corridor Brake Thirds from diagram D95 and left and right handed Corridor Composites from diagram E127. Over the following four years, further Lot numbers of these diagrams were produced, along with an additional eight different diagrams and the design became the first choice for the important Express Trains, including the Cheltenham Spa Express and Bristolian, until the late 1930s. Many of these coaches survived in general service until 1961, being withdrawn completely by early 1963, with several managing to escape scrapping when they were converted for departmental use during the early 1960s.

Dapol OO BR W38126 Fruit D Express Fruit Van Rail Blue B753

Dapol OO Gauge 4F-014-019 B753 BR Fruit D Express Fruit Van W38129 BR Blue

GWR orders for the Fruit D express fruit van were still being delivered into the 1950s. These useful vans were widely used for express parcels the growing small consignments business.

Many of these relatively new vans were still in service when the change to blue livery occurred in the late 1960s/ early 1970s, the last examples surviving in service until about 1980, often travelling widely in parcels and engineers parts (ENPARTS) service.

This model painted in rail blue is ideal for the 1970s era, the twilight years of the Western regions' diesel hydraulic locomotive fleet, when many of these vans were used to transport spare parts from Swindon works to locomotive depots.

Dapol O Gauge 7F-059-005 Berry Wiggins 14-Ton Class B Oil Tank Wagon Black 101
Air Ministry design class B fuel oil tank wagon in Berry Wiggins service with black painted tank.

The latest new wagon model from Lionheart Trains, these oil tank wagons were built to orders from the air ministry during WW2, increasing the British tank wagon fleet during a time of high demand for aviation fuel. The wagons were sold on to the oil companies after the end of hostilities.
Most were built as Class A wagons for highly flammable products like petrol and aviation fuel, using the standard RCH 17'6" long 10' wheelbase chassis equipped with either side brakes and oil axleboxes. The 4275 gallon cylindrical tank was saddle mounted on transverse timber baulks and usually platforms were provided either side of a central filler hatch.
Tankers for less volatile class B products (eg tar) were usually fitted with heating tubes to raise the temperature of heavy oil products and persuade it to flow more easily and bottom discharge valves, were not permitted for class A products.

Dapol O Gauge 7F-058-002 Shell/BP A7498 Air Ministry design class A fuel oil tank wagon silver liveried tank.

New release from Dapol using the former Lionheart Trains tooling

These oil tank wagons were built to orders from the air ministry during WW2, increasing the British tank wagon fleet during a time of high demand for aviation fuel.

The Lionheart model features diecast parts to increase the weight and a compensated chassis for good running with solebars and brake rigging details moulded in robust ABS plastic. Fitted with metal wheels, sprung buffers and drawbar with hook and three-link coupling.

Peco OO Pack of 8 ST-200 Standard Straights ST-2000

Peco OO Pack of 8 ST-200 Standard Straights ST-2000
ST-200 standard length straight track section, length 168mm 6 5/8in.
Equivalent to the Hornby R600 and Bachmann 600 straight track.
This is the standard straight track length in the section track system, the same lengths is used by Bachmann, Hornby and Peco for their sectional track ranges. Track sections from all three manufacturers are fully compatible and can be used to expand the track supplied with train sets.
Sectional track standard points, Peco ST240/241 and Hornby R8072/8073 fit into the same track length along the straight side. The same length is also used for items like level crossings, making it easy to match up track lengths as you assemble a layout.
Peco use quality nickel-silver rail, providing good electrical contact and long lasting performance.

Peco OO Pack of 4 ST-226 2nd Radius Double Curves ST-2026

Peco OO Pack of 4 ST-226 2nd Radius Double Curves ST-2026
Pack of 4 double curves at number 2 radius. 438mm 17 1/4in radius. 22.5 degree curve. This will for a half-circle.
Equivalent to Hornby R607 and Bachmann 36-607 2nd radius double curve tracks.

Number 2 is the standard curve radius used for OO train sets and the minimum radius which large locomotives, coaches and wagons will successfully travel around. Almost all British ready-to-run models are designed to navigate no.2 radius curves as supplied. Peco, Bachmann and Hornby standard points use no.2 radius for the curved arm of the point, allowing a point can be substituted for one standard curve to create a siding. The standard curve is also used with a point to bring the diverging track back to parallel with the straight route.

Peco track uses durable and corrosion resistant nickel-silver rail for long lasting performance.
Peco Setrack track sections are fully compatable with Hornby and Bachmann track and are supplied with fishplates already fitted at both ends, ready for attachment to other track sections.

These vans date from the late 1890 and 1900s and are shorter than the later standard 20 ton vans which appeared during the Churchward era. These lighter goods brake vans were rapidly displaced from mainline duties but many were still in service on branchlines well into the nationalisation period.

Peco O GWR Spear Fencing, Straight Panels, Gates & Posts LK-741

Peco O GWR Spear Fencing, Straight Panels, Gates & Posts LK-741
Based on a typical GWR design, this style of fencing was of course relatively common in many places, being found alongside the platform, around the goods yard, engine shed and station entrance, as well as in many other non-railway settings. So the opportunities for the modeller to use this fencing on their layout will be wide and varied.
The mouldings are extremely fine and sharp, and the distinctive angled four-sided profile of the separate "spears" have been perfectly replicated. All components are moulded in black plastic and so can be left as they are, or painted if required. Careful modellers will easily be able to hang the gates on their hinges so that they can swing open. The spear tip of the fencing is true to the prototype and as a result the finished model will add plenty of character to any scene.
Contains 20 straight panels, total length 890mm, 35 inches, plus 1 large and 2 small gates.

Ratio OO GWR Brick Signal Box 552

Ratio OO GWR Brick Signal Box 552
A well designed model kit to build a model of a brick-built GWR signal box. This was a standard GWR design and a huge number were built all over the system. Despite rationalisation over the years there are still many to be seen today, with a number still in operation on heritage railways. The model is based on the medium sized box at Buckfastleigh on the South Devon Railway, a quite small country station with loops and goods sidings.
This model will be perfect for a country stations and branchline junctions, but can easily be altered. The GWR built these signal boxes on a modular basis, so the kit can easily be shortened (by removing the central window unit and one of the adjacent frame uprights) to create a box for a small station. Similarly kits can be combined and/or used with some embossed plastic sheet to add window frame units to recreate a large box suitable for a mainline station.

Features include the finely moulded GWR signal box window frames, steps and typical GWR-style slate roof. Moulded in the correct colours, painting is optional but good results can be obtained by carefully painting, especially as the GWR often used engineers blue bricks for corners and foundation courses. Running a wash of cream/grey paint over the wall then wiping off the brick surfaces to leave the lighter colour in the grooves also nicely recreates the appearance of the mortar between the bricks.
