Dapol O BR D3043 Class 08 Shunter BR Green Late Crest No Warning Panels DCC & Sound Fitted 7D-008-000D

Dapol O gauge 7D-008-000D BR D3043 Class 08 0-6-0 350bhp Diesel Shunter Green Late Crest No Warning Panels DCC & Sound Fitted

Dapol have produced a very finely detailed model of the British Railways standard heavy shunting engine, best known as class 08, but often referred to by railwaymen as '350s' from the original 350bhp engine rating. Developed from locomotives ordered by the big four railway companies in the late 1930s and through the 40s British Railways picked the most reliable equipment for their standard heavy diesel shunter. 996 locomotives were built between 1952 and 1962, replacing steam traction in yards and depots, with several hundred still at work on the national rail network, heritage railways and in industrial service.

The Dapol model is driven by a powerful 5-pole motor with a flywheel smoothing out the drive through a gear system designed to provide realistic smooth, slow speed running suitable for shunting work. Extensive research into the design variations within almost a thousand locomotives built by five different works over ten years has produced a highly detailed bodyshell replicating the first batches of 08s built with external hinge strapping on the bonnet side doors. The tooling is designed to allow for other common variations, with models available with one or two exhauster boxes at the front of the footplate and to replicate locomotives in early condition with radiator access ladders and later service when the ladders were removed. The cab has not been forgotten, with opening cab doors revealing interior detailing, control desk, brake stand and internal cable trunking.

D3043 painted in BR plain green livery without yellow ends. Late crest.
DCC & Sound fitted. Sound system data sheet (Adobe pdf file). Equipped with sprung buffers, sprung coupling hook and 3 link chain coupling. Fitted with directional lighting including red/white shunting lamps.

DCC Concepts Cobalt Ip Point Motor DCC Digital Control DCP-CBDIP

DCC Concepts Cobalt Ip Digital Point Motor DCP-CBDIP
Introducing Cobalt-iP Digital ? Cobalt-iP Digital is a new Cobalt DCC-on board product that adds on-board DCC control to the very best features of Cobalt Classic-O and Cobalt -iP to create the best ever digital-ready point motor. With Cobalt-iP Digital, you can have your cake and eat it too, because it is 100% ready to go in digital format, yet it will also allow you to have a classic control panel with a choice of either one or two push-button switches per turnout? Super low current draw means you can use complex pre-set routes using the abilities already built in to most quality DCC control systems with no need to add anything else! While Cobalt-iP Digital may look the same on the outside, we have added so much more than you can see. It has a totally new and even quieter internal gearing structure, re-designed internal electronics to add actively managed drive speed and at the same time, we?ve added our all new microprocessor-controlled ?intelligent power? electronics to make Cobalt-iP Digital perform better than any point motor you have ever seen. Being aware that not all power supply situations are the same, we have also made drive voltage almost irrelevant because Cobalt-iP Digital has a huge ?safe power range"? so it is totally comfortable with a very, very wide range of track bus or accessory power voltages. So? apart from intelligent control, smooth operation, insanely long life and the hobby?s best backup and warranty, plus incredibly easy solder-free installation, smooth operation and exceptional usability, what?s new in Cobalt-iP?

Locomotive driver and fireman figures in the later LMS standard and BR era uniforms. This style of uniform was common, with detail differences, across most of the major railways by the 1930s. Many details can easily be suggested using painted patches with hints of colour for company logos etc.

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 33-832 EWS ex-Southern Railway 25-Ton Queen Mary Bogie Guards Brake Van EWS Maroon & Gold

The Southern Railway constructed a number of bogie brake vans to provide smooth riding vans for guards on express goods and parcels trains. Initial examples being rebuilt from redundant electric unit parcels cars these vans ride like a coach, in additon to having good weight and an efficient brake.

Many of these vans survived in BR ownership, latterly with the engineering departments who appreciated the combination of a mess/riding van and tool storage in the verandahs either end. Several examples were still in service at privatisation and passed into the ownership of EWS, receiving the companys' maroon & gold paint.

Dapol O gauge GWR 5 ex-LB&SCR A1X Class Terrier 0-6-0T GWR Green Shirtbutton Logo 7S-010-008

Dapol annouced the second batch of 'Terrier' liveries at the Gauge O Guild show in 2015, with delivery anticipated during 2016.
We are taking orders for these models at ?189. Please use the 'Click and Collect' payment option in the checkout system, we will contact you to arrange payment when the models are released.

The Great Western acquired two of these small but gutsy engines in lieu of payments due from the moribund Weston, Clevedon and Portishead light railway. Part of the Colonel Stephens empire the WC&P had obtained the Terriers as these were about the largest and heaviest engines the lines' wooden trestles could cope with! Both engines provided vaulable service to the GWR and War Department during WW2, shunting in temporary wartime depots. GWR number 5, ex-LB&SCR 43 Gipsy Hill, retained her Portishead nameplates until withdrawn under British Railways ownership having worked from Bristol (St Philips Marsh), and Taunton (probably for the Bridgewater dock line) and visiting the works at Newton Abbot.
Number 5 will be at home on any GWR layout, working sidings, shunting a quayside or 'standing in' for another engine on light duties.

Created from a detailed laser-scan of W8 Freshwater on the Isle of Wight steam railway a great deal of attention has been applied to the detail changes made to these engines over their long lives. The tooling design allows for both the original A1 (with smokebox 'wings') and later reboilered A1X class (with longer smokebox) will be modelled as appropriate for each locomotive. The cab has been kept completely unobstructed, allowing full internal detailing, ready for the crew to board!
In additon to the cast chassis the running plate and wheels are being diecast to increase the weight while a skew-wound 5 pole motor is being installed to provide smooth torque at low speeds.

DCC Ready - 21 pin decoder required for DCC operation. A DCC and Sound model will also be available.

An excellent kit from Parkside for the distinctive GWR 20-ton goods brake van. A progressive design when first built in this form during the 1920's, the design remained almost unchanged until construction was ended about 1950 in favour of the standard BR type 20-ton brake van. The LMS constructed 1000 of these vans specially equiped with steam heating and controllable end ventilators between 1925 and 1930 to carry bananas from ports such as Avonmouth, Garston and London, to inland warehouses. The majority of the type remained in service into the 1960s and the first batches of British Railways banana vans used this same basic design. This kit provides a useful addition to the Southern design banana van, kit PS100, particularly for the British Railways era.
Parkside O scale kits are packed with detail, but easy to assemble, and are complete with the wheels and transfers.

Metcalfe N Single Track Engine Shed Red Brick Card Kit PN931

Metcalfe N Single Track Engine Shed Red Brick Card Kit PN931
Stations on branchlines and cross-country routes required only a small engine shed to house the branch or pick-up goods locomotive. This pre-cut printed card kit is ideal to fill this role.
Featuring sturdy construction the kit comes complete with relief window sills and lintels for extra reality. Based on Great Western structures, many of which were built by private companies before formal GWR takeover, the design is generic suggesting a structure built by a local building contractor and will look right on most layouts.
As with all Metcalfe kits the card construction makes it easy to trim the parts to fit a site. A second kit can be added to extend the finished model, for example to accomodate two engines.
Metcalfe brick single track engine shed kit footprint 130 x 47mm.

An intricately designed covered footbridge, once assembled this model will enhance any station, large or small. As supplied the model has a maximum width of 124mm, and if platform-mounted the staircase has a length of 70mm. An optional set of steps are provided in the kit, if it is to be mounted 'on the ground', thus extending the length to 90mm.

The picture above shows the kit assembled for platform-mounting. Combining kits gives the modeller plenty of scope for a larger footbridge for a multi-platform mainline station.

Peco Guide to N Gauge Railway Modelling PM-204

Peco Guide to N Gauge Railway Modelling PM-204
N gauge is popular amongst railway modellers second only to OO/HO scale. At roughly half the scale of OO/HO the opportunities offered to people with limited space are wide ranging.
Of course, to build a railway in a wider landscaped setting in N gauge does also offer an alternative approach. Whatever the choice, the scale is strongly supported by manufacturers, including PECO of course, and this new publication guides a new modeller into the miniature world of N scale, as well as informing and enlightening the seasoned modeller, who can always learn something new!
With 124 full colour pages, including perfect bound covers, the story of N gauge is told, starting with a history lesson, followed by chapters covering subjects such as inspirational layouts, layout design, track plans, and various project layouts, including Stenson, a new N gauge layout built for the PECO exhibition stand.

Lionheart Trains O BR B132467 16-Ton Steel Mineral Wagon Diagram 1/108 Welded Body with Top Flap Doors 302B
A detailed model of the British Railways standard diagram 1/108 welded body 16-ton steel mineral wagon in original or as-built configuration by Lionheart trains.

British Railways ordered over 200,000 of these wagons, the vast majority being to diagram 1/108 or a near-identical variant, with a welded steel body with side and end doors. The most common type, euqiped with hand brakes only, were painted in goods grey, with a white stripe indicating which end the end door was. Forming around half the BR-built wagon fleet these wagons were used everywhere to carry everything which didn't need some kind of special protection form coal to sugar beat!

Lionheart Trains models have a body made from ABS plastic incorporating fine detailing and fully finished in 1950's, 1960's and 1970's decorations. |The chassis contains a die-cast metal floor to add weight, a compensating beam on one side to improve running performance, brass bearings, die-cast wheels with steel tyres, sprung metal buffers, sprung die-cast hook and metal coupling links. Solebars, axleboxes and brake gear components are moulded in ABS plastic for strength.
This model carries different numbers on each side so you can change wagons simply by turning it around.

Lionheart Trains O BR 16-Ton Steel Mineral Wagon Diagram 1/108 301B

Lionheart Trains O BR 16-Ton Steel Mineral Wagon Diagram 1/108 301B4
A detailed model of the British Railways standard diagram 1/108 welded body 16-ton steel mineral wagon with a replacaemnt body eliminating the top flap from above the side door and retro-fitted with vacuum train brakes.

British Railways ordered over 200,000 of these wagons, the vast majority being to diagram 1/108 or a near-identical variant, with a welded steel body with side and end doors.
As is well known steel rusts and, after many years and many loads of corrosive coal, the extent of body repairs suggested the fitting of an all-new body would be easier! The new body had a few differences to the original, particularly the top flap doors, provided to give a lower body height for shovelling coal by hand, was eliminated. The new continuous top rail made the body much stronger and a programme of rebuilding was initiated in the 1970s. Vacuum fitted wagons were obviously prime candidates for re-bodying as these wagons were in demand and likely to be required for many more years, while BR was trying to phase-out unfitted 'hand brakes only' wagons.
Latterly BR painted all wagons in a mid-brown livery, a less-red shade than the previous bauxite, as wagon barke types were now identified by the TOPS wagon code.

Dapol O Gauge LB&SCR 643 A1 Class Terrier 0-6-0T Marsh Umber Brown Livery 7S-010-009

Dapol O gauge LB&SCR 643 A1 Class Terrier 0-6-0T Marsh era Umber Brown Livery 7S-010-009
LB&SCR 643 was built in June 1877 as 43 Gipsyhill, later renumbered 643 and running in the later Marsh era umber brown livery. Use of the names had been discontinued, the Terriers now being welcomed to the minor branchlines of the country districts, well away from the London boroughs whose names they had carried. 43/643 was sold by the Southern in 1925 to the Weston Clevedon  and Portishead Light Railway, their locomotive 2 named Portishead and eventually becoming GWR number 5, retaining the name Portishead.
The engine is modelled here in the later LB&SCR livery of umber brown, introduced by CME D E Marsh in the 1900s and carried by many of the Brighton companys' locomotives into Southern Railway ownership. A model finished as GWR 5 Portishead is also being produced.
In addition to the cast chassis the running plate and wheels are being diecast to increase the weight while a skew-wound 5 pole motor is being installed to provide smooth torque at low speeds.
DCC Ready - 21 pin decoder required for DCC operation. A DCC and Sound model will also be available.

Dapol O Gauge BR(SR) 32636 A1X Class Terrier 0-6-0T Lined Black Late Crest 7S-010-011

Presented in the later and quite attractive BR lined black livery 32636 is better known as the Bluebell Railways' No.72 Fenchurch. This locomotive has the most remarkable history of all, being the first of the class to enter service in September 1872 and among the last Terriers withdrawn from British Railways service on the closure of the Hayling Island branch in September 1963  It seemed most improbable that 72 Fenchurhc would become BR oldest operational steam locomotive when she was sold as surplus in 1898 to the Newhaven Harbour Company, but following a rebuild to A1X specifications 72 returned to 'mainline' company ownership when the Southern Railway took over shunting around Newhaven harbour in 1926. Instead of regaining number 72 Fenchurch was given the first available number in the A1X series, then 636, later 2636 and finally after nationalisation 32636.
Along with her sister engines from the end of the Hayling Island line 32636 was purchased for preservation by the Bluebell Railway and has put in many years of service on Britains first standard gauge heritage railway.

Created from a detailed laser-scan of sister Island Terrier W8 Freshwater on the Isle of Wight steam railway a great deal of attention has been applied to the detail changes made to these engines over their long lives. The tooling design allows for both the original A1 (with smokebox 'wings') and later reboilered A1X class (with longer smokebox) will be modelled as appropriate for each locomotive. Dapol O BR D3043 Class 08 Shunter BR Green Late Crest No Warning Panels 7D-008-000
Dapol O gauge 7D-008-000 BR D3043 Class 08 0-6-0 350bhp Diesel Shunter Green Late Crest No Warning Panels

DCC Ready with a 21-pin decoder connection and space provided for a speaker easily accessible under a 'clip in' bonnet roof section (5 or more decoder function outputs required). Equipped with sprung buffers, sprung coupling hook and 3 link chain coupling. Fitted with directional lighting including red/white shunting lamps.
D3048 painted in BR plain green livery (green ends) with late crest.

Peco Point Motor Extended Pin PL-10E

Peco Point Motor Extended Pin PL-10E
The PL10-E point motor is fitted with a long point operating pin, ideal for mounting beneath baseboards.? A small 10mm (3/8in)? hole through the baseboard is required, located directly beneath the operating pin attachment location on the point. The pin will then reach through the board and locate into the operating pin attachment hole of the point. The pin can then be trimmed to length with a good side or track cutter tool. Peco strongly recommend that the PL10E? be used in conjunction with a PL-9 Mounting Plate, fitted directly to the base board underneath the point. Operation is from a passing contact switch or probe and stud system? to give a pulse from the? 16v AC outlet found on most transformers (2 amps required). If this isn't available an uncontrolled 12v DC supply? may suffice. A constant current would burn out the motor.

Hornby OO LNER 5444 J15 Class 0-6-0 Goods Engine LNER Black R3414

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R3414 LNER 5444 J15 Class ex-GER 0-6-0 Small Goods Engine LNER Black
A detailed model of the LNER class J15 0-6-0 goods engine finished as LNER 5444 in plain black livery.
The Hornby model nicely captures the simple lines of these long-lived locomotives, complete with their Victorian-era domed boilers. Close attention has been paid to detailing, producing a characterful model of these signature GER locomotives, which lasted in British Railways service until 1962.
Locomotive 5444 was built at Stratford Works under Order X45 and entered traffic during July 1899 as NER No.644. Renumbered to LNER No.7644 following Grouping, in September 1946 the locomotive was renumbered to 5444. The locomotive spent its working life being allocated between Stratford and Colchester sheds and made it through to Nationalisation in 1948, taking the BR No.65444, finally being withdrawn in October 1958 and cut up in January 1959.
