Bachmann 21-Pin DCC Decoder with Back EMF and 4 Function Outputs 36-557

Bachmann 21-Pin DCC Decoder with Back EMF and 4 Function Outputs 36-557
Bachmann 36-557 provides a basic technology decoder with the 21-pin socket type connection, ready to fit onto the 21 pin connectors. These are becoming more widely used, especially in OO diesel locomotives from Bachmann and Dapol. The decoder has one blank hole (the missing 22nd pin), ensuring correct orientation every time. Usually the decoder will fit flat just above the main control board, no wires to be tucked away during as the body is refitted!

This decoder provides a 1 amp power output with configurable high-frequency pulse-width modulation back-EMF motor control for smooth running and configurable speed curves. Shunting speed fucntionality allows the maximum speed to be halved for accurate speed control during slow running and shunting. Four function controls are available with a maximum 350mA combined output.

Decoder measures 25mm long, 15.5mm wide with socket at one end.

Hornby OO Railroad Rothery Industries Private Owner 0-4-0T Shunting Locomotive GWR 101 Class R3359

Based on a GWR design locomotive intended for light railway use this shunting engine is typical of the side tank engines used in private sidings at factories, mines, quarries and other industrial installations. Small locomotives were needed to move wagons around a works complex, deliver coal to the furnaces when required and move wagons to and from the connection with the mainline railway company.
Some of locations had extensive rail networks and provided an internal passenger service to get staff around the site. An ideal use for Hornbys' Victorian era 4-wheel coaches.

A progressive design when first built in this form during the 1920's, the design remained almost unchanged until construction was ended about 1950 in favour of the standard BR type 20-ton brake van. Hornby OO The Bristolian Limited Edition Train Pack R3401

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R3401 The Bristolian Limited Edition Train Pack

Limited edition of 1000 sets containing GWR King 4-6-0 6009 & 3 Collett Coaches

To mark the centenary of the opening, in 1835, of the Great Western main line between Paddington and Bristol, the GWR?s management decided to create a new express service linking London and Bristol. With a schedule of 105 minutes in each direction, the service was 15 minutes faster than the previous best and with slight variations over the years, it stayed that way until the introduction of HST services to the route.

The non-stop service was normally comprised of seven coaches, initially being Collet Bow-Ended stock, comprising two third class brakes, three composites, a third and, in the centre, a buffet car. The first months of the service saw it being hauled by a ?King? class locomotive but it soon became apparent that a ?Castle? class was more than capable of the task, it was to be 1954 before the ?Kings? returned to the service.

Departure from Paddington was at 10:00am, with Bristol being reached at 11:45am and the return leg commenced at 4:30pm, arriving back at Paddington for 6:15pm, the average speed being just over 67mph for the two legs of the journey. Whilst ?Bristolian? roof boards were fitted from the outset, a headboard did not feature until 1953.

Hornby?s new pack for the ?Bristolian? contains GWR ?King? 6009 King Charles II with ?shirtbutton? logos, together with a trio of the new Collett bow-ended carriages. The carriages will be left-hand Brake Corridor Third 5108, right-hand Brake Corridor Third 5107 and left-hand Corridor Composite 6160. All three will be turned out in GWR chocolate and cream livery with ?Bristolian? roof boards fitted.

Dapol O Gauge 7F-059-005 Berry Wiggins 14-Ton Class B Oil Tank Wagon Black 101
Air Ministry design class B fuel oil tank wagon in Berry Wiggins service with black painted tank.
The latest new wagon model from Lionheart Trains, these oil tank wagons were built to orders from the air ministry during WW2, increasing the British tank wagon fleet during a time of high demand for aviation fuel. The wagons were sold on to the oil companies after the end of hostilities.
Most were built as Class A wagons for highly flammable products like petrol and aviation fuel, using the standard RCH 17'6" long 10' wheelbase chassis equipped with either side brakes and oil axleboxes. The 4275 gallon cylindrical tank was saddle mounted on transverse timber baulks and usually platforms were provided either side of a central filler hatch.
Tankers for less volatile class B products (eg tar) were usually fitted with heating tubes to raise the temperature of heavy oil products and persuade it to flow more easily and bottom discharge valves, were not permitted for class A products.

Ratio OO Wagon Kit GWR Iron Mink A 563
The GWR iron mink was built in the early years of the 20th century. Built from iron and well protected by paint these vans were virtually indestructible and many were still in service at the end of WW2. The subtsantial construction was also useful for transporting explosives safely and many were used as improvised gunpowder vans duing two world wars.

This is an easy to build kit, take care to ensure that the axles are square so it will run well. The wagon can be painted in the GWR dark grey livery, or paint the wagon in black and add gunpowder van markings. Several private owners also ordered wagons based on this design, Spillers (flour) and Ferrocrete (cement) are well-known examples.

Peco O GWR Spear Fencing, Straight Panels, Gates & Posts LK-741

Peco O GWR Spear Fencing, Straight Panels, Gates & Posts LK-741
Based on a typical GWR design, this style of fencing was of course relatively common in many places, being found alongside the platform, around the goods yard, engine shed and station entrance, as well as in many other non-railway settings. So the opportunities for the modeller to use this fencing on their layout will be wide and varied.
The mouldings are extremely fine and sharp, and the distinctive angled four-sided profile of the separate "spears" have been perfectly replicated. All components are moulded in black plastic and so can be left as they are, or painted if required. Careful modellers will easily be able to hang the gates on their hinges so that they can swing open. The spear tip of the fencing is true to the prototype and as a result the finished model will add plenty of character to any scene.
Contains 20 straight panels, total length 890mm, 35 inches, plus 1 large and 2 small gates.

Dapol N Gauge 2S-012-007 GWR 5 Portishead Terrier 0-6-0T GWR Green Shirtbutton Logo

The GWR received two of the ex-LB&SCR 'Terrier' 0-6-0 tank engines from the Weston Clevedon & Portishead Railway when the independant line closed in 1940, the GWR being one of the major creditors. The more powerful, Portishead, received an extensive overhaul and was used for a number of light shunting roles around Bristol and in the West Country until withdrawn in 1954.
The terriers proved very useful as shed pilot engines at Bristol St Philips Marsh shed as they would fit on the turntable alogn with another tank engine. One of the two was also loaned out to Frys at Keynsham, being small enough to traverse the sharp curves in the chocolate factory and the engines shunted at the temporary army camps created to accomodate American troops prior to the 'D-Day' invasion of Europe.

Graham Farish N BR 31844 N Class 2-6-0 Mogul BR Lined Black Early Emblem 372-931
Designed by R E Maunsell for the SECR during WW1 the N class moguls were useful and flexible locomotives. A powerful and modern design, the N class mogul combined features needed to give the locos the ability to haul freight trains at a good speed and tackle some of the more challenging routes in Devon with express passenger services. This type of 'secondary' motive power was the backbone of the British steam fleet and a very welcome additon to the range of Southern steam locomotives available in N gauge.

This model of 31844 is painted in BR mixed traffic lined black with early type lion over wheel emblem. Fitted with smoke deflectors and paired with a straight-sided tender.

Pack of 4 double curves at number 3 radius, 505mm 19 7/8in. 22.5 degree curve, this is sufficient for a half circle.
Equivalent to Hornby R609 and Bachmann 36-609 3rd radius double curve tracks.

The larger number 3 radius is designed to construct a circuit around the outside of a circuit at No.2 radius, with the track spacing set so that two left-hand or right-hand points will form a cross-over between the two circuits. Larger radius curves allow trains to run safely at higher speeds without derailment.

Peco track is manufactured in Great Britain using quality nickel-silver rail which offers good electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. Setrack track is supplied with fishplates already fitted and is compatible with the track supplied with Hornby and Bachmann train sets.

Dapol O John Stephens & Co Vinegar Brewers of Gloucester 7 Plank Open Wagon Weathered 7F-071-020W

Dapol O John Stephens & Co Vinegar Brewers of Gloucester 7 Plank Open Wagon 7F-071-020W Weathered Version
John Stephens and company ordered this 7 plank open coal wagon from the nearby Gloucester RCW company.
Photographed by the Gloucester RCW co photographer the wagon was used to advertsie the owners' buisness as 'Jam & Pickle Manufacturers & Vinegar Brewers', a most interesting change from the usual collieries and coal merchants. The wagon was most likely used to ensure a steady supply of coal for the works' boilers and provide extra storage capacity without incurring charges.
Trade directories for 1905 and 1935 give John Stephens' business address as St. Catherine Street, Gloucester and coal was certainly purchased from the Eastern United Colliery in the Forest of Dean. Coal may also have been obtained elsewhere, Gloucester having excellent direct rail links into the Midlands, South Wales and Somerset coal fields.

    Weathered finish.

A detailed model of a 1923 RCH standard 7 plank open coal wagon finished in the chocolate brown livery of the Gloucester Co-Operative society.

The Gloucester Co-Operative coal yard was located within the Midland Railways' yard. Provided with direct rail services from the Midlands, Bristol, Somerset and Forest of Dean, a choice of coals could be obtained from hundreds of collieries. The society was a major supplier of coal in Gloucester, with 20,700 tons being handled in 1910, during which year the society ordered at least 18 new wagons, bringing the fleet to 42. The Gloucester RCW photographer captured the companys' shunting engine with Gloucester Co-Operative numbers 34-42 fresh from the paint shop.
The last batches of wagons purchased brought Co-Operative Societys' fleet to a total 52 wagons which it appears to have passed into the wagon pooling arrangements were enacted for WW2.

Features sprung buffers, 3-link couplings, metal wheels, opening side doors.

Dapol O Osman Trevor Powell 7 Plank Open Wagon 7F-071-021
A detailed O gauge model of a 7-plank open wagon operated by Gloucester coal factor and merchant Osman Trevor Powell. Naturally he obtained his wagons on lease from the nearby Gloucester RC&W Co. The Dapol model features openable doors, sprung buffers and thre-link couplings.
Listed as a coal factor in a trade directory of 1876, Trevor Powell's main business address was in Commercial Road, Gloucester, from where he also operated a coal merchants business. He also had offices in Lydney, most likely where coal was purchased and transport arranged. The Gloucester RC&W Co. recorded 28 10-ton wagons hired to Trevor Powell in October 1875, the minute suggesting that this was a renewal of hire on these wagons. Despite several orders indicated in the Gloucester company's surviving records only one official photograph is known.

Dapol OO Lowell Baldwin Ltd. 9 Plank Open Coal Wagon 4F-090-001
A large coal factor company, Lowell Baldwin of Bristol supplied coal to many industrial consumers, justifying the purchase of these large capacity wagons. The higher capacity were ideal wagons for delivering coal for the boilers of many industries and town gas plant, where large quantities of coal were required daily.
20-ton capacity coal wagons became more popular in the 1930's, as the railway companies offered a better rate per ton for coal haulage in these larger wagons. The railway company gained in efficiency, moving fewer wagons needed less locomtoive power and less shunting to deliver the same weight of coal loaded in older 10-ton wagons. To assist with unloading these high-capacity wagons two doors were fitted in each side, plus end and often four bottom hatch doors.

Dapol 7F-058-004 O Gauge Shell Motor Spirit Air Ministry 14-Ton Class A Oil Tank Wagon

The latest new O Gauge wagon model from Dapol, Shell Motor Spirit Air Ministry 14-Ton Class A Oil Tank Wagon in Silver, No. 7522. These oil tank wagons were built to orders from the air ministry during WW2, increasing the British tank wagon fleet during a time of high demand for aviation fuel.

The Dapol O gauge model features diecast parts to increase the weight and a compensated chassis for good running with solebars and brake rigging details moulded in robust ABS plastic. Fitted with metal wheels, sprung buffers and drawbar with hook and three-link coupling.

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R3524 BR 34096 Trevone Rebuilt Bullied West Country Class Light Pacific 4-6-2 BR Lined Green Late Crest

Hornbys' superb model of the rebuilt Bulleid light pacific, the West Country class, finished as 34069 Trevone as running in the later BR period painted in lined green with the lion holding wheel crest.

The Bulleid pacifics proved less than satisfactory in their original form with air-smoothed streamline casings, however testing proved the boiler to be quite exceptionally efficient. The principle issues with the mechanical side of the engines was addressed by rebuilding many of them to eliminate the innovative but troublesome valve gear mechanism and removing the casings which trapped oil and caught fire!
The rebuilt Bulleid locomotives looked more traditionally locomotive-like, but inside were among the most technologically advanced engines built in Britain and proved to be capable express passenger engines.

DCC Ready. 8-pin decoder required for DCC operation.

Hornby OO Railroad BR D5551 Brush Type 2 Class 31 A1A-A1A Diesel Locomotive BR Green with TTS Sound R3592TTS

Hornby RailRoad OO Gauge R3592TTS BR A1A-A1A D5551 Class 31 - BR Two Tone Green with TTS Sound

The Class 31 diesel electric locomotive was developed as a result of the British Transport Commission?s 1955 Modernisation Plan, which proposed replacing all steam locomotives with diesel, powered units over a 10 year period.  Locomotive manufacturers were invited to produce pilot designs, which could trialled with the hope that this would lead to fleet size orders.

Designed and built by the Loughborough based Brush Traction, the early examples were delivered to London?s Stratford depot for use on the former Great Eastern lines with the prototype D5500, the first of a batch of twenty being delivered in October 1957. The whole of the pilot batch of Class 31s entered traffic during the years of 1957 to 1959 with the vast majority going to the East Anglian Sheds.

The British Transport Commission were so impressed that orders were placed allowing for the Class to go into full production with orders amounting for a total of 263 with the full production being completed by 1962. The Class 31 locomotives were fitted with a standard electro-pneumatic control associated with the Blue Star multiple working system. Between 1965 and 1969 the entire Class was re-engined with English Electric power units, which was after serious problems were experienced with the original Mirrlees power units.  The first of the Class to be re-engined was D5677, a locomotive that was later re-numbered under the TOPS classification system as 31249, with the last locomotive receiving a new engine being D5500, which is now part of the National Collection.

As the Class numbers grew so their field of operation increased and they soon could found working on the majority of the BR network heading up both passenger and freight trains.

Between the years of 1973 and 1985, sixty eight of the Class were fitted with electric train heating and all ?31s? that were still in traffic in 1988 were fitted with dual train brakes, both air and vacuum.  From 1983 a life extension programme was undertaken involving the removal of the body side bands and skirts together with redundant steam heating equipment.  Any of the Class that was not included in this programme of changes was listed for early withdrawal, however the last of these designated locomotives continued in service until 1994.

Hornby OO Mallard Pullman Train Set R1202

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R1202 Mallard Pullman Train Set

On July 3, 1938, Sir Nigel Gresley's 'Mallard' sped down Stoke Bank, south of Grantham on the East Coast Main Line, in a blur of Garter Blue. At milepost 90?, between Little Bytham and Essendine, the locomotive recorded its highest speed of 126mph. Breaking the 1936 world speed record of 124.5mph for a steam locomotive, previously set by a German engine, the record still stands today. This set is representative of a typical East Coast Pullman train and would have been a familiar sight between London and the North.

Oxford Rail OO GWR 2309 0-6-0 2301 Class Dean Standard Goods Engine GWR Green Lettered Great Western with Garter Crest OR76DG001

Oxford Rail OR76DG001 GWR 2309 Dean Design Standard 0-6-0 Goods Engine GWR Fully Lined Green, lettered Great Western with Garter Crest pre-WW1 Edwardian era livery.

The 0-6-0 goods engine was the standard general service goods locomotive across Britain's railways from the Victorian era to the end of steam. The 260 William Dean designed 0-6-0 goods engines built from 1883 to 1899 were the first GWR engines of the type with inside frame chassis only and after trials with domeless boilers the characteristic tall domes became standard on these engines. Usually known to GWR enginemen as the 'standard goods' the Dean 0-6-0s remained in service until displaced by new 2MT 2-6-0 engines in the 1950s.
Several Dean goods engines served overseas during the two world wars with examples being sent to France, Salonika and China! The engines were used by both allied and axis forces, plus the Ottoman Railways and in Germany and Austria during reconstruction after the second war.

This model of 2309 is finished in the pre-WW1 Edwardian era style with boiler bands and splashers fully lined and all brass and copper finely polished. The tender is lettered Great Western either side of the company's garter crest.

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 32-788 BR 37284 Class 37/0 Co-Co Diesel Locomotive BR Blue Centre Headcode Box
Model of BR class 37/0 locomotive 37284 painted in the corporate blue livery of the 1970s and 80s.
This locomotive was one of the later builds of class 37 locos, ordered after BR had decided the nose-end communicating doors were unneccessary, allowing a single, central headcode box to be fitted and greatly cleaning up the appearance of the locomotives.
the Bachmann class 37 model features a heavy diecast chassis block accomodating a centrally mounted motor with drive to both bogies and all six axles. The detailed bodyshell closely replicates the complex curves of the real locomotives, with the curved cantrail shoulder grilles and solebar level 'tumblehome' carefully recreated.
