The Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway was a nominally independant railway between Bath and Bournemouth, with branches serving the Somerset levels. The company was owned jointly by the Midland and London South Western railway companies, later LMS and Southern, with the parent companies providing engineering support. As a result the majority of the locomotive power followed Midland/LMS practice, including a batch of Midland Railway class 2P 4-4-0 passenger locomotives, which carried the Somerset & Dorsets' prussian blue livery until the 1920s.
