Hornby Railways R6752 OO Gauge Cory Brothers & Company 6 Plank Open Wagon
A nicely finished model of Cory Brothers of Cardiff 6 plank open wagon 3262. Cory Brothers were among the largest coal distribution companies in the age of steam and coal fired cooking in Britains' homes. The company owned a large fleet of railway wagons and operated a small fleet of coastal ships in the coal trade. The company is still in business today providing maritime logistics services and as shipping agents.
6 plank wagons offered an increased volume capacity over the 5 plank wagon, allowing a greater load to be carried. Later the use of narrower timbers saw the 6 plank design evolve into a 7 plank wagon of similar internal dimensions.
