Handbuilt 1/4 Vickers .303 H.M.G. 1917 - 1961 with Machine Gun Corps Cap Badge (HB/011)
Superb all brass `quarter scale' model of a .303 Vickers machine gun. The model was
built around 1961 by Mr. Maurice Dollin completely from scratch, from solid brass so there
are no working parts.. Incorporated on the display base is Sgt. Instructor Albert Dollin's
cap badge from the Machine Gun Corps, which was only in existence as a corps for 3
years.
The model is complete with its tripod mount, ammunition belt and box, condenser can and
hose. The base measures approx. 15" x 11 1/2" while the barrel length is 11" and tripod
splay also 11".
It is cased in a perspex display case measuring 16" x 12 1/2" x 8" high.
Sgt. Dollin, the model maker's father, transferred to the remainder of the Machine Gun Corp in India, training Indian Army personnel in the use of the Vickers guns. He had been wounded when most of his battery was wiped out by shelling at the 2nd Battle of Mons. Steam rising from the condenser can was a problem, as it could give the position of the gun away in heavy actions.
