WBritain 1/32 Napoleonic Nassau Light Infantry Carabiniers 2 Piece Set (17987)
18 June at Waterloo After a wet, cold and sleepless night, at 03.00am the Nassauers
prepared themselves for battle. First, the muskets had to be made ready for use again:
because of all the water, the barrels were red rusty. At 09.00am on the 18th Wellington
ordered the 1st bat/2nd Regiment Nassau, about 800 men and commanded by Captain B sgen, to
prepare in order to move to Hougoumont, to help defending this position. At the beginning
of the battle, When the French attacked at about 11.30am, the troops defending the wood,
including the Nassau voltigeur company and the supporting company had to retreat before the
massive odds, Part of them retreated to the right around the buildings, while the remainder
retreated to the left along the outer side of the garden wall, into the orchard. The
musketry of the troops (part of which were Nassauers) lining the garden wall and defending
the hedge of the orchard, halted the French advance, who were counterattacked by the
British Guards. The Brunswick j ger company fell back on the other units but the Nassauers
continued defending Hougoumont during the whole day
