WBritain 1/32 British Lt General The Earl of Uxbridge (36049)

Appointed to cavalry commander in Belgium, under the still resentful eye of Wellington. On the eve of Waterloo , Paget had his command extended by Wellington so as to include the whole of the allied cavalry and horse artillery. He handily covered the retirement of the Anglo-Allies from Quatre Bras to Waterloo on 17 June, and on 18 June led the spectacular cavalry charge of the British centre, which checked and in part routed D'Erlons corps d'arm e. One of the last cannon shots fired that day hit Paget in the right leg, necessitating its amputation. According to anecdote, he was close to Wellington when his leg was hit, and exclaimed, "By God, sir, I've lost my leg!" to which Wellington replied, "By God, sir, so you have!" According to his aide-de-camp Thomas Wildman, during the amputation Paget smiled and said, "I have had a pretty long run. I have been a beau these 47 years and it would not be fair to cut the young men out any longer.

In the late afternoon, Vivian's regiments, with those of Vandeleur's 4th Brigade, were moved to support the hard-pressed center of the line. After the repulse of Napoleon's Imperial Guard, Vivian's hussars made the final charge of the day between Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte , sweeping everything before them. This service was rewarded by the thanks of both houses of "Parliament of the United Kingdom"

WBritain 1/32 British Lt General Lord Hill (36051)

Hill was one of the few officers Wellington trusted enough to give a separate command to , Hill was unfortunately stricken with malaria before his force fought at Albuera and had to hand it over to Sir William Beresford.Rising to general in 1812, Hill was often used by Wellington as an independent guard on his flank or rear, but again showed his fighting abilities at Vitoria, Souraren and St Pierre. At the latter he soundly defeated a larger French army under Marshal Soult. Aside from his excellent fighting qualities, Hill was an officer who deeply cared for his men, who called him Daddy Hill.

WBritain 1/32 British Lt General Sir Thomas Picton Mounted (36052)

When Napoleon returned from Elba. Picton, at Wellington's request, accepted a high command in the Anglo-Dutch army. He was severely wounded at the "Battle of Quatre Bras" on 16 June, but concealed his wound and retained command of his troops. Two days later, while in command of the 5th Infantry Division he was shot through the temple by a musket ball, making him the highest ranking victim of the battle on the allied side. Since his luggage had not arrived in time, he had fought the battle wearing civilian clothes and Welsh folklore says that his top hat was shot off by a cannon-ball moments before his death, but this is not known to be backed by any historical source

Napoleon also wanted them to vault up behind cavalrymen on horses but in real combat this happened only very rarely. Theoreteically voltigeurs were armed with 141.7 cm long dragoon muskets (it was a shorter version of musket, easier to load and carry for the short man). But it was rare and voltigeurs were armed as the rest of infantry, with long muskets. They also carried a bayonet and short sabre

WBritain 1/32 Fight in the Courtyard British Coldstream Guards Light Company Closing the Gates Set #1 (36006)

The desperate defence of the farmhouse at Hougemont by the Guards was the turning point of the battle of Waterloo, as the victorious Duke of Wellington readily acknowledged. The battle began at approximately 1130hrs.The French attacked the west of the farm where the open ground was held by the Third Guards. They were overwhelmed and forced to retire through the North Gate pursued by the French. Despite trying to shut the gate, between 50 and 100 Frenchmen forced their way through. These men were eventually all killed less one unarmed Drummer Boy who was spared. More Frenchmen were trying to force their way in and Lieutenant Colonel Macdonell called on three Coldstream officers to help him close the gates, they were joined by Cpl James Graham (later promoted to Sgt for his bravery) and his brother Joseph, also a Corporal, and four men from the Third Guards. Of all the regiments present at Waterloo, none was more respected at the time than the Green-jacketed 95th Rifles. A highly-trained regiment of expert marksmen and skirmishers, the 95th drew a grudging respect and generated great fear amongst their French enemies Armed with the 'Baker' rifle and sword bayonet; the standard of marksmanship in the regiment was phenomenal. Officers were armed with a sword humourously describd by John Kincaid (the Adjutant of the 1st Battalion) as 'Our small regulation half-moon sabre... better calculated to shave a lady's maid than a Frenchman's head'. By the end of the battle they had suffered 35 officers and 482 men as casualties
