WBritain 1/32 1918 US Infantry "Doughboy" Marching - 1 Piece In Clam Pack (23012)

No one is sure how the nickname for American soldiers during World War I began .The origins of the term are unclear, but appear to date back to the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Another theory claims that it began during the Civil War due to the dumpling shaped buttons worn by Union soldiers. Initially the term only referred to the infantry, however during World War I it was expanded to cover all American forces in France.

WBritain 1/32 1914 WW1 French Cuirassier Trooper Charging 2 Piece set (23007)

The retention of this magnificent but obsolete armour for active service by the French Army in 1914 appears to have reflected the prestige of this branch of the cavalry, dating back through the Franco-Prussian War to the campaigns of Napoleon. Attempts were made prior to the outbreak of war to have the cuirass restricted to parade dress but on mobilisation the only concessions made were to wear a cover of brown or blue cloth over the steel and brass of the cuirass itself to make the wearer less visible. The cuirass ceased to be worn by most French regiments within a few weeks of the outbreak of war, though it was not formally withdrawn until October 1915.

WBritain 1/32 German Light Mortar with 4 Man Detachment - WWI (41109)

Mortars were undeniably effective effective in terms of trench warfare.  Soldiers would often strain their ears to catch the "plop!" sound that indicated the Mortar positions rapidly came under fire from enemy artillery once their presence was detected.  For this reason they were unpopular when sited among a given group of infantrymen, for it almost guaranteed a busy time along the trench.
