Hornby OO BR Railfreight Class 08 with Sound R3036XS

Hornby OO BR Railfreight Class 08 with Sound R3036XS
Sound can really bring a model to life and the BR class 08 shunter is a key locomotive for most diesel era modellers.
Hornbys' model is the best detailed version of the 08 yet, with many variations possible to allow for the endless variations between locomoitves, many carrying fittings for specific duties. This model is painted in the BR Railfreight triple grey livery, first applied in the mid-1980s and still carried by some locomotives well into the privatisation era.
The detailed bodyshell is complemented by a powerful and low-geared drive, ideal for smooth, slow-speed shunting and giving a realistic top speed.
DCC and Sound fitted.

Dapol OO BR 73138 Class 73 Electro-Diesel Civil Engineers Grey with Yellow Stripe Dutch Livery 4D-006-006

Dapol 4D-006-006 BR Class 73 73138 BR Engineers Dutch Livery

British Railways Southern region required a small fleet of electric locomotives to haul special passenger, parcels and goods trains over the sections of the network equiped with third-rail electrification. It was quickly realised some kind of auxiliary power would be required for shunting in sidings where electrification was not practical. The most successful solution was the class 73 electro-diesel, a locomotive delivering up to 1,400bhp on electric power but carrying a 600bhp diesel engine for use away from the 'third rail'.

This model of 73138 is painted in the livery adopted from the mid-1980s for locomotives allocated to the BR engineering departments of grey lower bodysides surmounted by a broad yellow stripe. This scheme was quickly dubbed 'Dutch' as the livery had been used by the Netherlands railways for many years.

Model features
Laser scanned accuracy
See-through etched main bodyside and roof grills
PLUx22 decoder interface.

Built between 1959 and 1961 at Pressed Steels' Linwood Works in Scotland the class 117 DMUs were initially allocated to British Railways Western Region. The units were formed of Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS), Trailer Composite with Lavatory (TCL) and a Driving Motor Second (DMS) cars with 42 each of the DMBS and DMS motor cars built along with 39 trailers, allowing a float of motor cars for maintenance. Used predominantly as 3-car units, initial workings were on suburban services out of London Paddington and in Cornwall. When additional capacity was required the units coupld be coupled together and coupled to other types of unit using the BR standard Blue Square multiple unit control system, with all power units under control of the driver in the leading cab. The Blue Square system was fitted to the class 101 and 108 units also produced by Bachmann.
After many years of service on the Western Region the class 117 units were included in the refurbishment programme which saw most of the fleet upgraded between 1974 and 1984. A number of refurbished unit moved away from the Western region to replace older designs in other parts of the country. Some units travelling as far as Scotland. Following the sectorisation or British Rail operations the reamining London based units were allocated to the Network South East buiness sector until displaced by the new 'Networker Turbo' class 165/6 DMUs. Units still in gereally good condition were reallocated to the Provincial Services business, later named Regional Railways.
The first units were retired in 1995 and many later withdrawn units were purchased for heritage railways.

This set is painted in the colourful Network Wouth East livery, applied to give London suburban and Southern region trains a brighter, smarter and more progressive look.

Bachmann OO BR Class 121 Single Car Diesel Multiple Unit Network South East Livery 35-527

Bachmann Branchline OO 36-527 BR Class 121 Single Car DMU Network South East Livery

We are taking pre-orders for this new DMU unit from Bachmann. Please use the 'Click and Collect' payment option from the drop-down menu of the payments screen, we will contact you to advise our sell price and arrange payment when the trains are due to be released.

Derived from the Pressed Steel class 117 units the single car class 121 unit was a Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) car with a second driving cab at what would otherwise be the inner or luggage van end. 16 cars were built, primarily for the Western region, operating a number of branch lines along the Thames valley, in the Bristol area and throughout Devon and Cornwall. A number of single-cab trailer cars were also built, using the same bodyshell as the class 117 DMS, which allowed the train capacity to be increased when needed. The class 121 units featured the standard BR Blue Square multiple control system, so class 121 cars could be added to other DMU trains. A DMBS could be used as a stand in for a motor car on a three-car set and in later years the trailers were often paired with motor cars from other DMU classes to make 2-car units.
The class 121 units were put through the refurbishment programme in the early 1980s, receiving new interiors and flourescent lighting along with the brighter blue and grey livery. Cars operating in the London and Thames Valley areas joined Network South East on sectorisation, while withdrawn cars were often put to new uses for driver training and route learning, video infrastructure surveying and Sandite spraying (Sandite is an adhesion-improving substance). Two units are still in service with Chiltern Railways, one with Network rail and eight have been preserved.

This car is painted in the colourful Network South East livery applied to cars working in the London area.

A highly detailed model of Gloucester RCW built BR class 128 diesel parcels unit W55995 running in Royal Mail red livery. The corridor connections were rarely used and headcodes discontinued in the 1970s, so in later years these were removed from the Western region parcels cars, gangway doors plated over and marker lights fitted.

The GWR built two of their streamlined diesel railcars for express parcels services in the London and Reading areas.
When the new BR standard design units were built these Gloucester single units were built for the same express parcels services. Allocated to the Western and Midland regions the parcels units could be operated alone, coupled in multiple with other DMUs, including passenger-carrying units. Fitted with 2 Leyland Albion engines of 230bhp a single car could also haul a trailing load of up to 64 tons. Often one bogie van (BG or GUV, loaded about 40 tons) was hauled, with capacity for an extra 4-wheel van when needed.

Bachmann OO BR Class 419 MLV Motor Luggage Van Jaffa Cake Livery 31-269

The motor luggage vans were created to provide luggage capacity for the newly electrified boat train services. Electrically compatible with the Southern regions' EMU trains the luggage vans had the added feature of battery power, allowing the van to move onto the non-electrified dockside sidings to transfer passenger luggage directly to the ship loading conveyors. When running on the 3rd rail these vans can also haul a trailing load, resulting in occasional use to power parcels trains and at least one railtour!

This model will be painted in the 'Jaffa Cake' livery introduced for express services before the introduction of the Network South East brand.
