The Somerset and Dorset served many pits in the Somerset coalfield and later became famous for the lines' steep gradients, scenic crossing of the Mendip hills and slightly quirky methods of operation.
The two wagons are from companies local to the Somerset coalfield, Crane & Co being manufacturers of fireworks in Bristol and F H Silvey one of Bristols' major coal merchants and factors whose wagons were regularly seen loading at Radstock pits.
