Colors: 87 91 302 330 The 50 Class was developed from 1937 onwards as a light goods locomotive for branch lines or badly maintained lines. From 1938 onwards the political developments in Germany led to the purchase of large numbers of these locomotives. From 1942 the locomotives were simplified in design and modified many times to meet wartime requirements. The 50 Class was built by all the well-known German locomotive works and also by works in areas under German occupation. During the post-war period the BR 50 was to be found in the rolling stocks of both the East and West German railway companies. Modified and many times and equipped with a variety of tenders, these locomotives remained in service until they were superseded by modern diesel locomotives.
