BR Class 121 Single Car DMUs

Pressed Steel built single car DMUs. These single car trains are ideal for diesel-era branch line passenger services on small layouts, being a completely self-contained train with the future option of coupling additional cars or trailers for 'peak hours' trains. The Pressed Steel class 121 cars have had long lives, being built in 1960 and while most were withdrawn in the mid-1980s several were retained for shuttle services, the last being withdrawn from Network Rail registration in 2017. Of 16 cars built only 3 have been scrapped leaving 13 cars, from which several are in regular service on heritage railways.
Delivery expected June 2021
A highly detailed O gauge model of the Pressed Steel built single car BR class 121 diesel multiple unit trains. 15 of these double-ended single car units were built in 1960 to supplement the Gloucester cars on branch lines and shuttle services. The majority of the type seemed to be allocated to the Western region, but examples could be found all the way up to Scotland. In addition to branch shuttle duties these flexible single cars were often used to add capacity at peak hours, as substitute motor cars on 3-car sets and for driver route learning/refresher duties. 4 cars were retained for shuttle services into the 2000s, these now making up a total of 12 in preservation.
This model is finished as car W55029 in the special GWR style chocolate and cream livery applied for the GWR 150th anniversary events in 1985.
