The Subaru Impreza is justifiably considered to be one of the most important cars in the World Rally Championship. The ideas for the design originated from Peter Stevens. First shown to the public in 1996, the Impreza took part for the first time in 1997, the year in which the team took the Constructors' World Titl. The car was subject to continuous development, so that in 2004 the team started off with a model at a new stage in its evolution that was used for the first time in Mexico. In this fourth race of the season the Finnish team of Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen confidently picked up 4 points. Hirvonen, born in 1980, began his career in rallying in 1998. He ran his first complete WRC season in 2003 and in 2004 he changed over to the Subaru team. The good result in Mexico gave ample evidence of his abilities, proving that more can be expected of this youngster in the future.
