Bachmann OO 33-309 GWR 20 Ton Toad Goods Brake Van GWR Grey Canons Marsh Bristol
Bachmann 33-309 00 Gauge GWR standard long-wheelbase 20-Ton 'Toad' goods train brake van lettered for Canons Marsh depot in the Bristol City Docks.
The GWR had developed their goods guards' brake vans into this long-wheelbase single veranda design before WW1 and, other than detail and internal constructional changes, the appearance remained unchanged through to nationalisation.
This model is painted in the GWRs standard goods dark grey livery with the post 1936 small style of lettering.
Many GWR brake vans were allocated to specific locations or duties and this model is lettered for Canons Marsh, Bristol.
Bristol Canons Marsh depot was a vast goods terminal and marshalling yard along the north side of the City Dock and just below Bristol Cathedral, the former owner of the land.
While no-longer rail connected the main covered goods shed and company offices remain, now used as part of Bristols' harbourside complex and accomodating a tourist information office and Bristol science centre. The former yard is now occupied by Millenium Square and office developments. Some rails can still be found set into the road surfaces behind the former transit sheds which line the wharfs.
