This four wheeled coach is a representation of the many which served on the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) in the late 19th and early 20th century. Four wheeled coaches proved especially good at branch line work where their small size enabled the traversing of tight radius curves, whilst lower passenger numbers meant their small size was more acceptable and enabled trains to be hauled by smaller engines.

This LSWR coach is modelled as having step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and oil lamp lighting.

Highly detailed model of the South Eastern & Chatham standard design of 7 plank open wagon. The prototype wagon built in 1915 to test the new design which featured a steel underframe production wagons were built from 1919 to 1927 by the SECR and Southern, with a total of 2,121 wagons constructed. Most lasted into British Railways ownership, with 70 being recorded in regular service traffic in the 1960s and the last examples withdrawn in the early 1970s.

Detailed model of the BR SPA low-sided, air-braked steel carrier wagon in use by the engineers departments as a materials carrier and coded ZAA PIKE and painted in the engineers grey and yellow Dutch livery with weathering.

As part of the development of the long wheelbase air braked wagons intended for fast goods trains a flat bed stake sided steel carrier wagon was produced. This proved ill-suited for many steel products, so following trials with a low-sided body 1,1000 SPA wagons were built. These have low, steel drop-door side bodies able to retain coiled products like rod/wire and featured floor bolsters suitable for loading and unloading by fork-lift truck.
As with many of the air-braked wagons there have been many subsequent modifications, both for revenue and departmental uses.

The Diagram 1410 van was the most numerous ventilated van built by the London & South Western Railway (LSWR). Construction began in 1885 and more than 1,000 were built, with various detail differences introduced over the lifetime of the vans. These characterful vehicles feature outside framing, sliding doors and were built with a reduced height when compared with vans built later on. An increase of 7 inches in the height of the van from 1912 resulted in a new Diagram (1406), and soon after another new design with hinged doors rather than sliding – allowing the van body to be slightly wider and thus increasing the payload – was introduced as Diagram 1408. Whilst all three diagrams are modelled in the EFE Rail range, the latter of the three is the subject of this model which is finished in early SR livery (large lettering – pre-1936) and features a flush roof, Lift Link brakes, Panter axle boxes, fabricated buffers and three-hole disc wheels.

Maunsell’s diagram 2652 third class dining saloons were built in 1927 to provide an area for third class passengers to make use of the kitchen services provided in first class kitchen/dining coaches. The exterior of the coaches utilised the ‘low-window’ Maunsell styling, with ventilators above the windows and doors at each end which were gently recessed to accommodate their grab handles within gauging limits. Inside, each coach could accommodate 64 diners and two toilets were located at the end of the coach furthest away from the kitchen/dining first coach. Whereas a further 40 kitchen/dining firsts were built to the same ‘low-window’ style from 1929 onwards, accompanying third class dining was felt to be better served by the new ‘high-window’ open third saloons and as a consequence, from 1930, the six third class restaurant dining saloons were reclassified as open thirds

The 'Iron Mink' is one of the most recognisable GWR wagon types from the end of the 19th century, with over 4,700 examples constructed between 1886 and 1901. Both underframe and body were built from iron and steel, creating a robust and long-lived wagon, with examples surviving into the 1960s. The metal construction made the design ideal for use as Gunpowder vans, wagons to the same style being used by other railway companies and private owners.

The Diagram 1410 van was the most numerous ventilated van built by the London & South Western Railway (LSWR). Construction began in 1885 and more than 1,000 were built, with various detail differences introduced over the lifetime of the vans. These characterful vehicles feature outside framing, sliding doors and were built with a reduced height when compared with vans built later on. This particular model depicts one such Diagram 1410 van in early SR livery (large lettering – pre-1936) and is fitted with Freighter brakes, Warner axle boxes and plain tapered buffers. From 1912 the LSWR built further vans to the new Diagram 1406 which were some 7 inches taller than the Diagram 1410, followed soon after by Diagram 1408 vans which featured hinged doors rather than sliding – this allowed the van body to be slightly wider, increasing the payload. Both of these further types also feature in the EFE Rail range.

Maunsell’s diagram 2652 third class dining saloons were built in 1927 to provide an area for third class passengers to make use of the kitchen services provided in first class kitchen/dining coaches. The exterior of the coaches utilised the ‘low-window’ Maunsell styling, with ventilators above the windows and doors at each end which were gently recessed to accommodate their grab handles within gauging limits. Inside, each coach could accommodate 64 diners and two toilets were located at the end of the coach furthest away from the kitchen/dining first coach. Whereas a further 40 kitchen/dining firsts were built to the same ‘low-window’ style from 1929 onwards, accompanying third class dining was felt to be better served by the new ‘high-window’ open third saloons and as a consequence, from 1930, the six third class restaurant dining saloons were reclassified as open thirds

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 39-600 SECR Brake Composite Coach with Birdcage Guards' Lookout SECR Dark Lake Livery
These composite coaches contained two compartments finished for use by second class ticket holders and featured a lavatory compartment. The remaining compartments were for the use of passengers holding third class tickets.

New highly detailed models of the South Eastern & Chatham Railway (SECR) 60-feet length passenger stock featuring raised, glazed lookouts in the roof over the guard's compartments referred to as a birdcage lookout due to the similarity to an aviary enclosure.

These distinctive coaches had long service lives, the Southern Railway investing in electric trains rather than building new steam hauled stock suburban services. These SECR coach sets, along with many other pre-grouping suburban coaches will still in service into the British Railways period after 1948.

Following the introduction of diesel locomotives it was found that the new diesels lacked the brake force capabilities of steam goods engines when handling trains not equipped with vacuum train brakes, such as coal trains formed of 'unfitted' 16-ton mineral wagons. A significant number of redundant vacuum braked wagons were allocated for use as a 'fitted head', extra wagons with vacuum train brakes which could augment the locomotives' braking capability.
