The starfighter built by the Kuat Systems Engineering Works impresses on account of its outstanding versatility and manoeuvrability, resulting also from its small-scale dimensions. However, the manageable size comes at a cost, namely the lack of hyperspace travel capability. For interstellar flights the pilot must therefore fall back on external aids. Its styling simplifies the design and maintenance of the protective shield. What's more the large dome provides the advantage of all-round visibility. The starfighter is equipped with four laser cannons but these are only used for defensive purposes since the Jedi are committed to solving conflicts and not to armed combat. The dark red markings, as seen on Obi-Wan's starfighter, indicate that this is a personal starship as well as symbolize the generally universally recognized diplomatic status of the Jedi.
This tough combat ship, a Porax-38 starfighter, boasts a powerful class 2 hyperdrive and in terms of speed is clearly superior not only to the majority of similar-sized spaceships but also to fighters with a multi-man crew. Aided by the extremely effective sensor system designed for longer distances, the compact fighter can also detect enemy activity at an early stage. Powerful drives, a double reactor system and highly effective deflector shields make the fighter a valuable component in any fleet. The ship is built by the Buuper Torsckil Abbey Devices Works. Thanks to its strong protective shielding and the penetration power of its double laser cannons the Gunship is regarded as a formidable and highly dangerous opponent, and one that also Anakin has learned to respect. The ship is piloted by a personal bodyguard of General Grievous, a highly intelligent combat droid of the IG-100 MagnaGuard type.
