ModelMates Light Grey Weathering Dye Spray 200ml (49050)
Modelmates spray dyes contain a water soluble translucent dye, not acrylic paint. This
helps give the appearance of things look old, with dirt and weathering on top of the
original finished surface. Dye dries fast and is easy to use.
Spray it onto non-porous surfaces, let it dry, then smudge and wipe it with a damp cloth
to create weathering effects. Wet it with water and it will dissolve similar to a water
colour paint and can be brush applied.
Light Grey is a very translucent spray and excellent for making things look just very slightly weathered. Use it on models and landscaping that just need to look a little less new without being too dirty. Two or three light coats will make a new model look just slightly weathered. If ten to fifteen light coats are applied, the colour will eventually darken to Slate Grey. It does take time add ten to fifteen coats and it may not be the right choice of colour if a faster method of weathering is needed, Slate Grey would be a better choice. To make Light Grey a darker shade, apply a larger number of light coats rather than fewer heavy coats (heavy spraying will not make the shade darker).
Light Grey makes lighter coloured green grass or tree/shrub foliage look very slightly dirty. It s a very useful colour for landscaping because it s so translucent and easy to use.
Light Grey gives an excellent gentle background shading on all models. We usually combine it with Sand Brown to create a more realistic weathering effect. Light Grey may not be that visible on dark coloured models, but does make them look less new and it is surprising how dirty they can look after just a few light coats.
