A working scale replica of the BR style 2-aspect colour light distance or warning signal. Switchable between yellow and green aspects a 12-volt DC power supply is required.
These yellow/green signals are used as distance signals, providing the train driver with advance warning of a stop signal ahead. Many semaphore distance signals were changed to colour light during the 1950s, as the powerful lights were more visible in poor weather.
Distance signals were used to warn drivers that they were approaching a stop signal, allowing the train to be borught safely to a stand if required. Colour light distance signals were installed from the 1930's onwards, the powerful electric light being much more visible to drivers of fast moving trains in poor weather than the earlier semaphore signals. | |
