Corgi 1/76 3 Axle Trolleybus South Lancs The Last Trolley Bus (OM43708)
The South Lancashire Tramways Co. built up a large tramway network in the area to the west
of Manchester, serving towns such as St Helens and the system was converted to trolleybus
operation in 1929. At its peak, the newly entitled South Lancashire Transport Company, had
a maximum of 71 vehicles and covered a 30 mile route network. SLT trolleybus 71, HTD 868
was a 1947 Karrier MS2 Weyman 64 seat body. After the trolleybus services ceased in 1958,
the bus became licensed under the name of Lancashire United Transport, but wore the LUT
legal lettering for just one day, the 1st September 1958 and was thus LUT's only
trolleybus. It was repainted for the occasion and afterwards passed unceremoniously to a
scrap dealer for use as his office.
