47406 was built at the Vulcan Foundry in December 1926 and withdrawn by BR at the end of 1966. Sold to Woodham Bros for scrap 47406 was the last Jinty to leave the Barry scrapyard, however most mechanical parts and fittings had already been stripped and sold to restore other members of the class. Leaving Barry in 1983 comprising little more than frames, wheels, boiler and cylinder block the growth of the engineering resources available within the railway preservation industry saw 47406 return to service in January 2010. Quite possibly in as good a condition as the engine which left the Vulcan Foundry 83 years previously.
