Traditionally, AEC was London Transport's major supplier of buses but, at the end of the war, it became apparent that they had insufficient capacity to meet the future demand.So, in the summer of 1946, Leyland Motors Ltd was approached to supply 1,500 of its new standard 9.8 litre engine, 1,000 for RT's which would now be called RTL's and the remaining 500 for RTW's, the wider-bodied version.

Sunstar/Chrono 1/24 1946 AEC Regent RT597 HLX414 Green Bus (2925)
RT597 was the first RT to be delivered , brand new, to Country service when it entered service on route 301 on 21st July 1948 out of Tring garage. Unlike our earlier model of a Country bus, 2922 ? RT36, a 2RT2 which had been re-painted in 1955, RT597 was a Weymann-bodied 3RT3. The 3RT chassis was similar to the 2RT with the main differences being that it was cut short behind the rear axle, the platform and staircase being cantilevered off the main body structure, and had a revised square fuel tank.

Sunstar/Chrono 1/24 Bedford OB 1949 Coach Royal Blue (5008)
Royal Blue was the brand for the coaches operated by Southern and Western National. Originally all vehicles were operated by the owning companies in their cream and green liveries before being repainted in the Royal Blue colours. HOD120 was an early 1949 vehicle operated by Southern National and based at Swanage in Dorset. Although as Fleet Number 580 it was numerically Royal Blue's first Bedford OB, it was not actually repainted and transferred until May 1955, the first Royal Blue's having been 587 and 590 which had been repainted in June 1953. At the same time as the change in livery, the seating configuration was also changed from 29 seats to 27, although the seat moquette remained unchanged from the original Southern National material.
