Corgi 1/43 VA13501 Mini 1275 GT, 1970 Scottish Rally, Paddy Hopkirk & Tony Nash - 2nd overall, 1st in class
Once early leaders Clark and Porter’s Escort had been eliminated by engine failure, and the fast Lancia Fulvia of Källström and Häggbom penalised for a controversial time-keeping infringement, the 1970 Scottish Rally became a straight fight between Brian Culcheth and Johnstone Syer in their powerful Triumph 2.5PI and their BL teammates in the 1,275GT modelled here. Initially unhappy with the car’s handling on 12" rims, Hopkirk reverted to the 10" rims used in the Mini’s heyday and in a gritty drive reeled in the big Triumph. Sadly it wasn’t enough for an outright win but his final appearance in a Works’ Mini had provided a fitting finale to his glorious rallying career in Minis.
