The quattro was launched on March 3rd 1980 at the Geneva Motor Show. Having re-written the performance car rule book and dominating the world of rallying, Audi announced the car's impending demise in April 1988. However, this press release stimulated demand so much that a final version of the quattro was planned and launched in 1989. Using the RR version of the familiar 5-cylinder engine, which featured the cross-flow 20-valve cylinder head and twin overhead camshafts first seen fitted to the Sport quattro, the 20V was an awesome machine and a fitting swansong for one of the most famous and best loved cars the world has ever seen.
