Corgi released the first Simon Snorkel Fire Engine in 1964. The model produced had a Bedford chassis and was made in 1/48 scale. Over 1,163,000 pieces were sold over a twelve year period. Later in 1977, a replacement model on a Dennis chassis came out, costing £82,000 to design, tool and develop - it sold over 173,000.

Altogether a stunning model of the Simon Snorkel with SS263 Hydraulic Platform which was launched in 1973 and evolved into today's Aerial Ladder Platforms. 

The Bedford wagon LYO 788 was originally built for the Auxiliary Fire Service as a foam carrier and was liveried in the customary gloss olive green with red AFS markings. It was part of the London Fire Brigade fleet carrying fleet designation AFT 1 it was then sold to the County of Clwyd Fire Brigade.This vehicle was repainted red and operated out of the retained fire station in Mold North Wales.In 1990, LYO 788 was transferred to the full time fire station in Deeside, N.Wales until 1992, subsequently being disposed of in 1993.

Think of fire engines and the name 'Dennis' springs to mind.The brothers behind the legendary 'Dennis Brothers', John & Raymond originated in the village of Huntsman in Devon. The 'F Series' of fire engines began production in 1946, the F12 being the more popular with the larger production run.The F12 was constructed of a wooden frame skinned with aluminium and was produced in both rear and side pump versions.
