Bachmann OO BR Mk.1 ScotRail Coach Pack 1 SK 1 BSK Blue & Grey Livery with ScotRail branding 39-004

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge BR Mk.1 ScotRail Coach Pack comprising One SK Second Class Corridor Coach and One BSK Brake Second Class Corridor Coach. BR Blue & Grey Livery with ScotRail Branding.

New product announced 2016

The branding of rolling stock used on internal services within Scotland was one of the first examples of sector individuality under British Rail. The use of the ScotRail brand provided a good identification and marketing tool for the scenic highland routes, which attracted significant tourist tarffic.
During the early 1980s the fleet of BR mark 1 coaches provided the backbone of non-express services and this type of coach was standard on the highland line routes. This pack provides two coaches and the basic core for a train formation to the farthest reaches of the British Rail network, where 2-coach and even mixed trains with goods wagons and passenger coaches remained common in the 1980s.
Typical traction on these routes included class 25, 26, 27, 37 and 37/4 locomotives.

Bachmann OO BR ex-LMS Inspection Saloon Blue & Grey 39-777A

Bachmann 39-777 is an excellent and highly detailed model of an LMS design 50-foot engineers' inspection saloon. This design continued to be built into the British railways era, a number still being in service in the 1980s and several now preserved.

This high specification model features interior saloon detailing at both ends of the coach plus full underframe fittings including the central folding steps.

These inspection saloons were used by the regional civil engineers as a mobile office and conference facility. Large end windows allowed the track and structures to be viewed while travelling, the large saloons allowed for site meetings and the planning of engineering works on site. A small kitchen and pantry in the centre of the coach accomodated a steward to supply refreshments and lunch when required.

Model painted in the BR blue and grey livery. Eras 6-7 1967-1982.

Bachmann OO Works Test Train Coach Pack Blue & Grey Weathered 39-001

Bachmann 39-001 Doncaster Works Test Train Coach Pack
A pack of two BR Mk.1 coaches finished in BR blue and grey livery and numbered in the departmental ADB series to match coaches used in the Doncaster works locomotive test train.

Works test train coaches were part of the engineers fleet, though often retaining passenger livery these coaches were not for passenger use but used as a load for controlled testing of overhauled locomotives. The interiors may be unchanged, stripped out or replaced with weights to provide a known load, a newly overhauled locomotives' performance could be checked with a series of controlled test runs before the loco was returned to service. An excellent excuse for an unusual locomotive to turn up 'on test'!

Bachmann OO Twin Pack BR Mk2A BFK HST Barrier Vehicles 39-002

Bachmann 39-002 Twin Pack of HST barrier coaches.

A pack of 2 of Bachmanns' detailed models of the BR Mk.2A first class brake coaches painted in the all-over blue scheme applied to vehicles in use with the engineering departments. These two are finished as HST barrier vehicles, used to allow conventional stock and locomotives to be coupled to HST coaches, which have centre couplers only.
Mk.2 stock was provided with both centre couplers and conventional side buffers as fitted to locomotives. Guards' brake coaches were usually chosen for use as barrier coaches as both a guards office and hand brake for securing the train in sidings were already fitted.

Barrier coaches are used when unit train (DMU, EMU or HST) coaches needed to be moved to works for overhauls or maintenance tasks beyond the capabilities of the depots. Frequently these coaches have couplers intended only for use within a set or unit, so cannot easily be coupled to other rolling stock. Using barrier coaches fitted with the unit train coupler and conventional side buffers either side the group of coaches can then be coupled to a locomotive.
Occasionally an HST power car would be sent from one depot to another under it's own power. A barrier coach would be coupled to be rear/inner end, making a quite unusual train.

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 39-225A BR Mk.1 BCK Brake Corridor Composite Coach BR Blue & Grey Livery.

A detailed model of the BR mark 1 composite brake coach painted in the corporate blue and grey livery

These brake composite coaches were very useful in short train formations, combining accomodation for first and second class passengers plus an office for the guard and small luggage stowage area into one coach. BCK coaches were used as 'through coaches' for many years and even in the 1980s some of these coaches were kept at locations where trains regularly divided to provide a guard or first class accomodation if one portion of the train would lack these facilities.

Bachmann Branchline OO 39-242 BR Mk1 FO First Open Blue & Grey

An excellent model of the BR Mk.1 design first class open plan seating coach.
Many of these coaches were built to provide seating coaches to operate with a kitchen car, while standard first class coaches retained seating compartments. As demand for full meal service declined in the 1960s these coaches were redeployed as general service first class coaches.
Businessmen found the tables useful to get some work done while travelling, leading to an increasing acceptance of the open plan seating arrangement for first class accomodation.

Bachmann OO BR Mk1 RMB Miniature Buffet Car Network SouthEast 39-265

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 39-265 BR Mk.1 RMB Miniatiure Buffet Car Network SouthEast Livery

The RMB buffet coach was one of the most successful buffet car designs from the BR era.
These coaches were based on the standard TSO open second class coach, one half of the bodyshell fitted out with a small buffet counter able to supply hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and snacks, a growing preference among travellers from the 1960s. A circulating area outside the buffet allowed passengers to pass the counter and return to eat and drink at their seats elsewhere in the train.

These coaches were used on many cross-country and medium-distance trains, providing a basic buffet service without a large kitchen using up passenger seating space. This model is finished in the Network SouthEast livery, recreating the buffet coaches used on NSE services to Oxford and the West of England.

Bachmann OO BR Mk.1 POS Post Office Sorting Van Blue & Grey 39-425

A highly detailed model of the British railways Mk.1 series post office sorting vans, built in the 1950s to re-equip the Royal Mail travelling post office trains.

This model represents the Travelling Post Office coaches from the corporate era of British Rail, painted in the standard blue and grey livery. This is the plain side of the coach, the sorting pigeon-holes were on this side of the coach.
Note the red painted late posting box in the side of the coach. Members of the public could post mail for the destinations served by the travelling post office train up until the time of departure at an extra charge. Latterly it seems this service was used mainly by enthusiasts collecting the special TPO cancel stamp.

Bachmann OO BR Mk1 InterCity Motorail GUV General Utility Van Blue & Grey 39-274

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 39-274 BR Mk.1 GUV General Utility Van BR Blue & Grey Livery, InterCity Motorail.

When designed the GUV included folding end doors and drop-down bridging plates. Once positioned against an end-loading dock with the doors openeded and bridge plates dropped over the buffers motor cars could be driven inside and cross into the next van. Car carrying Motorail services took advantage of this facility, offering families the flexibility of taking their car on holiday without the tiresome long distance driving.

This model replicates the later years of the Motorail services in the 1970s and 80s when these vans were specifically marked and maintained, ready for attachment to suitable long-distance passenger services, often between major cities and popular holiday resorts.

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 39-056A BR Mk.1 SO Second Class Open Coach BR Regional Railways Livery Weathered

A finely detailed model of the British Railways mark 1 second class coach with open plan seating painted in the 1980s BR Regional Railways livery with a weathered finish.

The Regional Railways business took reponsibility for non-InterCity and local train services in the majority of Great Britain, alongside Network SouthEast and several metropolitan transport executive managed areas. Based on the InterCity stripe livery Regional Railways adopted a blue stripe version, later seen on the new Sprinter DMU trains. Mark 1 and 2 stock was stilled used on some longer distance services, including the Trans-Pennine connections, and these coaches received this bright new livery.

Bachmann have produced an excellent model of these long-lived coaches with separately fitted handrails, water pipes and many other details.

Oxford Rail OO Gauge OR763FO001 BR Mk 3a First Class Coach FO BR Blue & Grey M11052

A new and superbly detailed model of the British Rail mark 3 coach, a design initiated with the HST programme with later builds to the same designs for the electrified West Coast route. These locomotive hauled coaches were classed mark 3a and were fitted with side buffers (the obvious external difference!) and single-phase electric train heating equipment suitable for locomotive haulage.

Initially allocated to West Coast Main Line services from London Euston along with class 86 and 87 locomotives the mk3a fleet was later deployed with class 90 locomotives and driving trailers in 'push-pull' mode on London to Birmingham and Liverpool/Manchester services. The coaches have seen use across many parts of the network, with the spare sets from weekday services often being employed on summer Saturday services to the West Country and many remain in use today.
Each model comes with a finely detailed exterior plus correct interior seating for the class, which is fully painted. NEM coupling pockets, fully detailed coach ends, connectors and detailed service pod arrangements for the relevant coach.

The coaches will be produced over time as part of a correctly numbered series of coaches. Each coach being based at the same depot and being found in a typical service during the period the livery covers. So you can build up a full train service.
