Bachmanns BR Mk.1 coaches are the best models yet of these popular coaches. Familiar to enthusiasts everywhere hundreds of these coaches are still in service on tour train sets and heritage railways.

This is a model of the composite side corridor design, with four first class and three second class compartments. Painted in the BR blue and grey livery used from the late 1960s onwards, Eras 6-7.

This type of coach was often used to provide first class accomodations on short 4-5 coach cross-country trains, ideal for many model railways.

The BCK was one of the most versatile coaches from the Mk.1 build. Equiped with a small guards' van and luggage stowage area, two first class and three second class passenger compartments these coaches could provide the basic accomodation needed on any train. Ideal for through services where trains divide to serve more than one destination and as an emergency stand-in for any defective coach.

The Bachmann model is possibly the most detailed version of the standard Mk.1 coach in OO to date.

Bachmann OO BR Mk2 FK First Class Corridor Coach Blue & Grey (39-330A)

Developed in the mid-1960s the BR Mk.2 coach introduced integral construction techniques, combining the strength previously provided by a heavy underframe into the bodyshell. Many innovative features were also tried, in many cases the first significant step forward in railway coach design since the Victorian era.

Bachmanns' model reflects the styling of these coaches, capturing the appearance of the curved sides and smooth blending of the side and end panels. This model of the first class side corridor version of the initial Mk.2 design is painted in the corporate blue and grey livery.

A very nice model of the Minature Buffet car. These coaches have a small buffet counter and food storage area near the centre, able to serve basic food and refreshments. Bachmann's model features the smooth riding commonwealth cast steel bogie and the extensive water supply piping on the roof. NEM pockets are used to permit tension-lock of bar type couplers to be fitted.

The blue and grey livery was trialed in the mid-1960's and steadily replaced earlier liveries by the early 1970's.

An excellent model of the BR unclassified restaurant coach in the corporate blue and grey livery.

These coaches remained in mainline express trains for many years after the standard coaches were relegated to secondary services, as no buffet cars were built to match the Mk2 stock of the late 1960s and 70s. The RU design was equiped with a large kitchen able to provide full meal service when required.

These were the normal first class sleeping cars, with single berths in each compartment to provide additional privacy for first class passengers.

Newly announced model of the BR Mk.1 sleeper car classified SLSTP, standing for SLeeper, Second class Twin berth with Pantry (attendeant's office).

These were the usual second class sleeping cars used on overnight sleeper trains, having twin (upper and lower) berths to accomodate two passengers in each compartment. A compartment was provided at one end of the attendant with facilities to supply tea, coffee etc. to the passengers.

Introduced in the mid 1970s the BR HST trains brought air-conditioned comfort and high-speed travel to Britains' railways.

This model of the second class open coach is painted in the Inter-City blue and grey livery.

Bachmann OO BR Mk.1 POS Post Office Sorting Van Blue & Grey (39-425)

A highly detailed model of the British railways Mk.1 series post office sorting vans, built in the 1950s to re-equip the Royal Mail travelling post office trains.

This model represents the Travelling Post Office coaches from the corporate era of British Rail, painted in the standard blue and grey livery. This is the plain side of the coach, the sorting pigeon-holes were on this side of the coach.
Note the red painted late posting box in the side of the coach. Members of the public could post mail for the destinations served by the travelling post office train up until the time of departure at an extra charge. Latterly it seems this service was used mainly by enthusiasts collecting the special TPO cancel stamp.

The POS was a sorting van, containing pigeon holes for the post office crew to sort letters while the train was moving. Some of these ocaches were also fitted with exchange apparatus, drop arms and a large catcher net, to allow mail to be dropped and collected from the lineside without stopping, but this practice had ceased by the 1970s.

An excellent model of the BR General Utility Van or GUV. These vans were designed for loading through side or end doors, allowing a wide range of cargos to be accomodated, from bagged mail to motor vehicles.

This coach carries the red livery of RES, Rail Express Systems. This was a network service introduced in the mid-1980s for express mail and parcels service. Many of these vans carry this livery today, though few remain in service.

GWR orders for the Fruit D express fruit van were still being delivered into the 1950s. These useful vans were widely used for express parcels the growing small consignments business.

Many of these relatively new vans were still in service when the change to blue livery occured in the late 1960s/ early 1970s, the last examples surviving in service until about 1980, often travelling widely in parcels service.

This model of W38129 painted in rail blue is ideal for the 1970s era, the twilight years of the Western regions' diesel hydraulic locomotive fleet.

These air conditioned coaches marked a major upgrade in passenger facilities on British Rail express trains from the early 1970s.

This model represents a Mk.2D air conditioned first class coach in the bright new InterCity stipe livery with swallow logo, intriduced in the mid 1980s.
These and the similar later builds formed the backbone of BR long distance express passenger services through the 1970s and 80s.

Hornby are also producing the matching TSO second class and BSO brake second coaches. No buffet cars were built during this period, one of the Mk.1 RB restaurant or RMB miniature buffet cars being used. Models of these coaches are available from the Bachmann range.
