The blue-spot fish vans were redeployed after the end of regular fish traffic on BR. Many were adopted by the engineering departments as parts and tool vans, this example being lettered for use by the locomotive engineers for use from the Barrow Hill shed near Chesterfield. These vans would have been used to transport new and repaired parts from the major engineering workshops and stores depots to the Barrow Hill shed to ensure that locomotive repairs could be effected quickly by the sheds' fitters.
