The modern air-braked wagons seen on Britains railways today can be found in the Modern Era section. | Graham Farish N 7 Plank Wagon with Coke Rail BR Grey (377-176A)
Many thousdands of former private owner wagons were taken over by British Railways in 1948. A large number of these wagons were repaired and repainted into the BR grey goods livery, making them a key feature of the early British Railways period. These rebuilt wagons worked alongside the new steel wagons, being the last wooden bodied coal wagons to be replaced.
This model in the BR grey scheme is an ideal wagon for the 1950's and 60's era. Coke extension boards are fitted, a fuel type for which the wood body wagons were much preferred.
