This model of the BR standard design of cattle wagon is finished as one of these wagons allocated adapted to carry beer in barrels. This was a good use for the well-ventilated cattle wagons, first exploited by the GWR during a downturn in cattle traffic. Wagons were specifically marked ALE to indicate to railway staff they should be used for 'clean' loads only (no doubt the brewery would appreciate receiving a return load of empties) and not loaded with cattle!
