Albatros AL140 Arandora Star, Blue Star Line's famous cruise ship 1/1250
Built by Cammell Laird, Birkenhead for The Blue Star Line in 1927, in 1928 Arandora Star was rebuilt into a luxury cruise liner. By 1940 she was a trooper. A beautiful ship that came to a sad end in WW2.
Arandora Star was one of five sisterships built in 1927 but in 1929 she was converted to a cruise ship. Taken over by the Admiralty at th start of WW2, she was sunk with heavy loss of life in 1940 by U47 when transporting German & Italian prisoners of war to Canada. Over 600 lost their lives.
