A direct descendent of the OH-6 Cayuse light scout and utility helicopter of the Vietnam Was, the AH/MH-6s currently in service with the US Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) have seen much combat in various actions across the globe. Known to SOAR crews as the "Little Bird", the H-6 was originally chosen for special operations work in the wake of the failed US Embassy hostage rescue attempt in Iran in 1980.

With its powerful engines, five-bladed main rotor and T-shaped tail, the MH-6 can carry up to eight soldiers outside the aircraft on a specially fitted plank seat which can be folded in and out of the helicopter in seconds. The AH-6 is configured near-identically to the unarmed MH-6, but with weapons installed on a special plank instead of seats. The helicopter can carry a multitude of ordnance, including Gatling guns, podded rocket launchers, AGM-114 Hellfire Missiles, 0.50 cal heavy machine guns and grenade launchers.
