Approximately 105 Royal Danish Army Centurion Mk. 3s were upgraded to Mk. 5/2 standards with a 105 mm L7A3 rifled gun. The Danish Centurions seemed to always be in a state of upgrades. The Besa Machine gun was replaced by a Browning 7.62, later a 12.7 mm Browning Machine gun was mounted on the turret. In 1964 106 tanks still with the Type A gun were upgraded with the 105 mm L7A1 and the Browning 7.62 Machine gun. Later some tanks received Danish produced tracks, laser range finders and night vision equipment. According to many authorities the Centurion is considered the best British tank ever. The British used this tank in Korea, the Israelis in the Middle East and the Australians in Vietnam. Each time the Centurion proved to be better than the enemy equipment and in most cases superior to any Allied tanks in the field with them. The Centurion saw 13 models produced with several sub-variants. The Centurion has been used by 15 countries and has been involved in 8 wars or conflicts.
