Navis Neptun 1/1250 Gneisenau, as proposed following the Channel Dash, 1942 1004B

When Gneisenau returned to Germany, she was docked for repairs without de-ammunitioning ship. The RAF attacked and a bomb hit exploded the forward magazine and destroyed Anton turret. It was decided to repair the ship with 6 x 15" guns and this model is based on the magnificent builders model of what was intended.

The bow was removed to fit a longer forecastle and the remaining 11" guns and turrets were sent to strengthen the Atlantic Wall but work was halted in favour of other priority construction. The hulk was used as a blockship at Gotahaven (Gdynia) and there it remained until the end of the 1950s.
