Navis Neptun 1/1250 1106 HMS Renown RN Battlecruiser 1942
A 1/1250 scale metal model of HMS Renown in WW2 by Navis Neptun 1106.
Renown was extensively re-built just before the start of WW2 with a block bridge instead of the tripod mast with its many platforms. Her subsequent service with Force H, roaming the Atlantic and western Mediterranean more than justified the expenditure of the modernisation.
On a grey day, the 9th April 1940, in poor visibility Renown encountered Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in the North Sea, damaging the former with a 15" shell. Faster than Renown, the German pair vanished into the mist. Fought with aggression they should have been more than a match for the much older British battlecruiser, mounting 18 11" guns of a higher velocity between them while Renown's 6 15" pieces could have put out less than half the number of shells.
