Navis Neptun 1/1250 2340 USS Roanoke, a Large Light Cruiser for anti-aircraft defence, 1956
Roanoke is a Worcester-class cruiser designed in 1941 to carry a rapid firing D.P. 6" gun. This class was delayed by the production of wartime standard designs and Roanoke was only completed in 1948. This model represents Roanoke in 1956, not as completed.
"Roanoke" completed ahead of her sister "Worcester". The 6" gun fitted could fire at nearly triple the rate of the weapon fitted to the Cleveland Class cruisers, making a firepower equal to a wartime cruiser with 36x6" guns!! The deck armour was proof against 1000lb bombs below 7500 ft. She was scrapped in 1972.
