Wien was the first ship of the Monarch class to complete and attended Queen Victoria's Jubilee review shortly afterwards. In the C20th, her smart Victorian livery gave way to overall grey and the three ships in this class were soon eclipsed by the Hapsburg and Radetski classes but they were active during WW1 as a hit & run coastal bombardment group. Wien was torpedoed in harbour by Italian MTBs and sank in shallow water but Budapest & Monarch survived WW1 to be surrendered after the armistice. Wien was raised, re-fitted and used as a tug for many years after the war.
