Located on a sandbank in the middle of the Gironde Estuary, this tower was begun in the 16th century but its present form and lantern dates from the early 19th century. Although it contains Royal Apartments, there is no record of any King of France ever visiting this lighthouse!

Although there was a lighthouse on Spurn Head at the mouth of the Humber, the shifting sands needed another light to show the area of danger. This ship is preserved and open to the public in the docks at Hull and has been replaced by an automatic light float.

Trinity House supplied this lightship to mark the safe approach to Juno Beach on D-Day. The ship differed from the normal lightships of the time in that the light was carried low down (probably to avoid German guns ranging on the invasion fleet) but she still had a tall mast to fly a black cone!

This model represents the ferry in Southern Railway livery, which was adopted by British Railways for all its ferries. Southsea was completed without radar whereas her sister, Brading, always had a radar mast on the bridge.

Working out of Hull, Grimsby and Fleetwood, these sturdy ships were designed to fish the banks off Newfoundland, Greenland and Iceland. Following the Cod Wars, these grounds were closed to UK vessels and they were replaced by smaller boats for use in the North Sea.

Essentially a self-righting variant of the "Liverpool" type, this boat was developed for trolley launching. 5 twin-engine boats were constructed with the larger engine cover modelled here but some single engine boats had larger covers fitted later in life.
