The model comprises the entire island of d'If and a small rocky outlier, together with its casle, lighthouse and other buildings. The island lies off Marseilles and its guns protected the approach to France's largest port.
One of the Goon Shows was devoted to the Chateau d'If! In its day the fortress must have been one of the most impregnable in the world. It is modelled in c20th form and is a fitting backdrop to ships of all types and sizes. | |
