Each locomtoive class is briefly described with principle dimensions followed by a list of the preserved locomotives with British Railways and previous numbers where applicable, current owner or location and detailes of the bulder and date of construction.

All types of ex-mainline locomotives, steam, diesel and electric are covered, including the new construction projects currently underway. The book is completed with listings covering unit trains, including diesel and electric multiple unit stock and even two preserved trams formerly owned by BR.
