ViTrains OO DRS 37 229 Jonty Jarvis Class 37/0 (V2028)

37 229 represents the DRS class 37/0 fleet, widely seen hauling nuclear fuel trains aross the UK. DRS have recently expanded into trainload and distribution freight flows.

Powered by a centrally mounted motor with flywheels in a diecast chassis drives two axles on each bogie through helical reduction gears.  Accurately reproduced tumblehome, bonnet shaping and end taper are complemented with flush glazing, etched windscreen wipers, etched roof fan grilles and finely moulded bodyside grille and panel detailing.

Remember Antics price includes UK delivery of your model locomotive.

D6929 was completed at the Vulcan Foundry early in 1964 and sent to Swansea Landore. In 1967 the locomotive was transfered to Healey Mills, but returned to South Wales at Cardiff Canton in 1971 where the new TOPS number 37229 was applied in 1974.

The locomotive worked across the Western region in the later 1970s, including Lickey banker duties and, about 1979, the former water tanks were altered for additional fuel capacity.

In 1984 37229 was named "The Cardiff Rod Mill" at Cardiff, marking the association of the class 37s with the steel industry in South Wales. Operation on the western region continued through the 1980s, with several passenger workings until 1988 when the locomotive followed many of its' contemporaries to Glasgow Eastfield. Allocated to the power station fuel pool no doubt 37229 became aquainted with the nuclear industry.

37229 returned to Cardiff Canton in 1993 for infrastructure work on the Great Western main, also spending some time allocated to Bristol Bath Road. On completion of this work the locomotive was moved to a general use freight pool before moving farther South-West in 1994 to join the Railfreight Distribution china clay fleet at St Blazey.

Allocated to the Transrail shadow franchise company in 1995 the locomotive was again based at Cardiff Canton, but seems to have taken charge of a number of passenegr trains around this time, possibly Saturday extras. By 1998 EWS had taken ownership of the locomotive and it was officially allocated to their central depot at Toton for systemwide freight services. EWS placed the 37229 in store in 1999, aparantly being moved to Bescot (Birmingham), possibly being reinstated for a while. In 2000 EWS placed the locomotive on the disposal list.

In July 2002 37229 was reactivated at Carlisle Kingmoor, having purchased by DRS and in 2003 represented DRS at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway diesel gala.

37229 remains in service with DRS hauling nuclear fuel traffic and infrastructure maintenance trains for Network Rail.
