ViTrains OO EWS 37 405 Class 37/4 Co-Co Diesel locomotive (V2073)

An unnamed member of the EWS passenger service class 37/4 fleet painted in the companys' maroon and gold livery. 37 405 has taken part in several high-profile locomotive hauled workings in recent years, including the Bristol - Weymouth and Cardiff - Rhymney services.

Powered by a centrally mounted motor with flywheels in a diecast chassis drives two axles on each bogie through helical reduction gears. The bodyshell has been produced from completely new tooling designed by former Lima engineers. This shows every sign of being a top-notch model, combining the latest technology with decades of model manufacturing experience. Accurately reproduced tumblehome, bonnet shaping and end taper are complemented with flush glazing, etched windscreen wipers, etched roof fan grilles and finely moulded bodyside grille and panel detailing.

Remember Antics price includes UK delivery of your model locomotive.

The locomotive which became 37 405 was built as D6952, completed in May 1965 at the EE Vulcan Foundry. Sent new to Cardiff Canton shed, the locomotive seems to have stayed in South Wales for many years, although some reallocations may have been overlooked. The locomotives' first new number was TOPS number 37 282, applied in 1974 and the redundant steam heating water tank was replaced with an additional fuel tank sometime in the late 1970s. This made the locomotive a prime candidate for refurbishment and late in 1984 the locomotive emerged from works as 37 405, now equiped with electric train supply.

The new ETH 37 was sent to Glasgows' Eastfield shed for work on the West Highland line, replacing the class 27s. As the 1990s approached 37 405 was transferred to a freight locomotive pool, but was repainted into the InterCity style Mainline livery and continued to power passenger services in Scotland, including the Royal Scotsman tour train. By the autumn of 1992 an overhaul was evidently due and 37 405 was stored unservicable for a while, before being reactivated and sent to Tinsley and later Immingham, but outstationed at Buxton for the Peak Forest stone traffic.

Passing through shadow franchise freight company Transrail the locomotive passed to EWS and soon became reaquainted with the Western region, taking part in the return of locomotive hauled Bristol -Weymouth passenger services in 1999 before returning to Scotland, again hauling supplementary locomotive hauled passenger trains.

South Wales became home again late in 2004, as the locomotive took part in the return of locomotive hauled Cardiff - Rhymney services throughout 2005.

EWS 37s' have seen less use since 2005, however 37 405 has remained active. We understand all of the EWS 37/4s are currently up for sale For a reliable, fully operational, ETH equiped locomotive like 37 405 the future no doubt lies with another operator, or in active preservation.
