ViTrains OO BR 37 421 Class 37/4 Strombidae BR Railfreight Triple Grey (V2022)

Railfreight Petroleum sub-sector triple grey livery.

Powered by a centrally mounted motor with flywheels in a diecast chassis drives two axles on each bogie through helical reduction gears. The bodyshell has been produced from completely new tooling with accurately reproduced tumblehome, bonnet shaping and end taper are complemented with flush glazing, etched windscreen wipers, etched roof fan grilles and finely moulded bodyside grille and panel detailing.

37421 is painted in the Railfreight triple-grey livery with petroleum sector markings. The locomotive was named Strombidae in 1991, marking the partnership between BR and the Shell oil company whose logo appears on the nameplate.

Remember Antics price includes UK delivery of your model locomotive.

Converted for a passenger role, the class 37/4 sub-class saw increasing use by the freight sector during the 1990s, following the introduction of Sprinter units on many secondary routes. As one would expect the new owners were keen to display their mark as shown by this representation of No. 37421. The Immingham based machine features the Petroleum sub-sector logo and ‘Shell’ nameplates originaly from a class 47.

37421 carried the Strombidae name from 1991 to 1993, during which time it appears to have worked in the Midlands area and into West Wales, including passenger trains to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli. The locomotive is still owned by EWS and, although in regular service on the Highland lines during 2004, seems to have done little work since 2005. Most recently it has been transferred to a stored pool code as is believed to be at Nottingham Toton shed.
