The B-25 Mitchell was one of the most outstanding medium bombers of World War 2. Conceived in mid-1939, the first production model flew in August 1940 and the first operational success was scored on December 24, 1941 with the destruction of the Japanese submarine. In April 1942, 16 B-25�s made a historic raid on Tokyo operating from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet under the command of General Doolittle- a raid that did little damage, but gave the U.S. a psychological lift during the early days of the Pacific Ocean hostilities. During the war years, the RAF, the Soviet Union, China Union, Brazil and the Netherlands also used the B-25. Nicknamed the �Sweetheart of Okinawa� by the U.S. Marines and �Whistling Death� by the Japanese, the Corsair performed effectively in two years- the Pacific conflict of World War 2 and the Korean engagement of the early 1950�s. The first production Corsair flew on June 25, 1942 at a time when the Japanese offensive seemed irresistible. It was not until late that year, with the delivery of the first Corsair squadrons into the hands of the U.S. Marines on Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands, that the tide of air combat was permanently turned in favor of the Allied Forces. To the British Navy in the early 1944 goes credit for introducing the Corsair to carrier service. Nine months later, the U.S. Navy cleared the way for the Corsair to become the mainstay of its mighty carrier fleet. | |

Flown by most Allied Forces in World War 2, the PBY Catalina became the most successful wartime flying boat because of its flight range, carrying capacity and ability to land on any reasonable body of calm water. From the attack on Pearl Harbor thru war�s end, the PBY saw service in nearly every combat theater around the globe-from icy Greenland and Alaska to the steaming tropics of the South Pacific where many personnel of downed bombers owed their lives to at-sea rescues by PBY�s. When the war terminated in 1945, many surviving Catalina�s began new careers as cargo transports, forest fire water bombers and members of geophysical survey teams. In these and other civilian roles, a number of PBY�s continued to successfully operate until the early 1980�s. | |

Twin engine, rubber-powered models are notoriously hard to fly, but by choosing the West Wings Dornier 335, you can have a twin with no vices. Having both motors in line prevents asymmetric thrust problems and with each propeller rotating in opposition there are no 'torque' turning worries either. In fact, it's hard to envisage a more optimum power installation. The kit is supplied with two plastic propellers, but you can make your own 3-bladers from the supplied components. This is very easy to do and highly satisfying.
