Free-flight aircraft are usually hand launched, release them and they are away. Set them up correctly and they should glide quite a distance in a series of swoops and then drop gently to earth. If you hit a wall you will have to buy another! However they are a bit of a challenge to build and set up - a lot of the fun is in the making. Master it and the skill acquired is priceless.

These popular private planes are still in use today by many private pilots. Whether built for scale or contest flying, the balsa wood airplanes in this series represent the finest in design and flight capability. Each can be flown using either a rubber motor, gas engine or electric motor (instructions for using electric power supplied in kits). The Arrow and Fairchild 24 balsa airplanes are easy to assemble Build-by-Number model kits.

Although the original manufacturer of the Aeronca Champion sold their business, their successor the Champion Aircraft Corp. produced many of this widely known personal airplane. Aeronca s have been a common site on American airports for many years and rival the Piper Cub s for popularity.
