Hornby Railways OO Gauge R4745 BR(SR) 2-Coach 'Set W' Coach Pack
Product cancelled by Hornby Hobbies.
The Southern Railway train formations book used an extensive plan of coach 'sets' comprising a fixed formation of coaches running together. These 'sets' normally contained a guards' vehicle so could form a train on their own, or be assembled into longer formations. Each set had a specific cycle of duties which, over the course of several days, could take the coaches from one of the London terminii to the farthest branches of the Southern in North Cornwall and back again before the cycle restarted.
This 'Set W' comprises a second class open coach and a brake composite coach, containing compartments for first and second class passengers, along with an office for the guard.
'Set W's were formed for use on the West of England branches serving the Devon coastal resorts and North Cornwall. Initially an older non-corridor third class coach was used, but as the Maunsell corridor opens were released from mainline duties by new build Bulleid and BR Mk.1 coaches these were used in the Set W formations.
